Good luck and play hard to everyone this week, in whatever you pursue!
Thank you for the positivity. And let me just say this, your parent group has been FAR AND AWAY the friendliest, nicest, and most supportive sideline all year long. I really want to give you credit for that. Thank you for being such good role models on how parents should act. Enjoy the sunshine today!

What happened to Eastside at this age group, anyway? Your HS boys teams are generally quite good (at least one State Cup winner). Your 08 team is very good. But it's like few talented boys were born in 2005 on the east side of town. And it's not like the neighboring clubs are strong in this age group either--PCU has a weak 05 class; NEU isn't strong either. Lots of Gresham kids crossing the river to play for Washington Timbers?

Just a "generation gap", or did some past coaching drama cause lots of kids to leave?

I wish I knew. We came over from the west side (not Westside) to learn from the 05DA coach. We shall return to the west side and our previous club's State team next season.

I've asked your same question several times this past season. I've gotten some different answers - they went to PCU (as you say, they didn't, or no stars did), the talent pool is weaker on the east side as there aren't as many fields to practice in, and for whatever reason to Eastside specifically, they have not committed to the 05B team, switching coaches several times a season. There may be other reasons.

Thank you for that. As you might guess, it's hard to lose EVERY game. But it also means there's little to no nastiness directed at us, either on this board or live at the games. So, we come, we compete, we learn, and we do it again the following week, and maybe we can find something in it all to make us better - players and spectators alike!

There are at least two ex-Westside players (though I think neither played for WST last season) on Eastside's 05DA roster, along with one ex-Westside coach (LLS); another former Westside coach (RS) is running the AdiStars program for Eastside. Both coaches are good coaches (and both players good players).

Did the old La Amistad FC (now IFC), back when it was allied with ADF (and won State Cup two years ago), grab a lot of talent from the east side of town? Is there a strong boys' soccer culture over there, especially outside of the Latino communities, or is there a bigger preference for football or other sports among talented boys?

Eastside's a good club, so I can't really understand why it's been struggling in this age group.

The DA calendar, of course, doesn't align quite precisely with the local club calendar. 05 tryouts for the Timbers Academy are last night and tonight, and for all other OYSA clubs (including those with DAs) are tomorrow and Thursday night. The OYSA season ended this past weekend with State Cup, and the new "season" starts after tryouts. The DA season, on the other hand, continues until June, and doesn't officially start until August (July being an unofficial "dead month", where players are supposed to rest up, and in reality are off doing summer tournaments all over the place).

DA tryouts, however, are generally the same night as OYSA tryouts--as the seven clubs involved all basically put their A team in DA and their B team (and lower) in OYSA. Some may delay picking the DA pool until summer (FC did that last year, I believe), but there will be some players playing this weekend with clubs/teams who they WON'T be playing with next year.

So, what will happen with players who change clubs? Or who are currently on DA rosters but fail to make the DA team for next year? Will club-changers be subject to delayed rostering? Can someone be rostered to one club for DA purposes and another for OYSA purposes?
If kids are coming from oysa teams or are currently on clubs “b” teams and are finished with their seasons, last year at our club those kids will train for the next few months (not play in any of the remaining da games) and will play and get time in any tourneys and or friendlies that teams have scheduled over the summer and move into season come September.. And it is odd for the last month, everyone knows who is cut and or is leaving and who is coming in to take their place- and may potentially be matched up against said players in these last few games. Most of the time the movement is for the better of all involved but there is always a few “bad breakups” with hard feelings and some parents will just pull their kids for the last month and have their kid train with the “new team” to avoid being uncomfortable and to avoid all the questions from the other parents as most have no idea what is going on...

Easy to understand. The fee is increasing annually. Lots of kids in Gresham & parts of SE Portland are coming from low income families, they cannot effort to pay this fee. ON top of it, most of Latino clubs are cheap or free, so the Latino talents are staying within their community unless they get offer FREE TO PLAY.

Eastside with new training ground will be fine if they step up to get REAL COACHES. LOUSY BOOT BALL from younger age groups will not helping to develop talents or attract talents players to the club.

Eastside is one of the cheaper "name brand" clubs around; it's discounted club fee (excluding uniforms and travel) is $1475. And it's not like Gresham is a ghetto; the club does have good outreach to the Latino community.

Don't know how much the various "Latino" clubs are, whether OYSA-affiliated or not.

Most of the coaches at Eastside I don't know; but there's nobody there that I do know that I have a low opinion of. Which coaches do you suppose aren't REAL COACHES, and could you point to an example of a REAL COACH that a club like Eastside ought to target?

Did you watch president cup and state cup at younger age group? If you did, you had already seen enough. Some if Eastside old cioaches ( Ecuado, Aaron, etc) good for young development players that what they need

Sad. Lots of good players. 05 TA players all made 18/19 roster so all were told not to bother wasting their time on open tryouts. Everyone knows four of those boys would be totally knocked out in an open tryout. Maybe even five. Current families were led to believe the weaker players still had to go to the tryouts. Looks like someone got in the new coaches ear, or wallet.

Can you explain? I don't understand what you're trying to say here.

I thought I read on here that the slytherin group was headed to United pdx so they could get playing time this year. If TA kept everyone and added even more as rumored it will be even worse this year for the bench players. Not sure what the point is of just being a training cone on an even bigger roster?
