You seem to be asserting that the difference between three local little DA clubs and the top Puget Sound teams is mainly playing to win vs playing for development.

    Please.

I love how you tried to spin that. Not what was said at all, tired of this "little DA"and "big DA" separation that TA honks and others spout off about just because they play in Seattle. They are exactly the same DA set up. several teams in the Seattle area are no better than CFC and or westside or bsc. The top few teams are at a higher level 1-18 and have much more depth, but the top OR teams would still be competitive and fair much better than snohomish, rush, etc (who are in what you call big DA just because of geography and the incessant need to feel better than everyone else) What should happen if everyone is truly about development of the top kids is there should be 2-3 DA teams in Oregon and they should all play in a Northwest DA league with the Seattle area teams and the other teams and players who do not make that top group should go back to oysa and there should be some culling in Seattle area as well.

        That would be fair enough.

What would be useful to see would be something like this:

        1) 2-3 DA clubs in Portland area, possibly one in the Willamette Valley; 3-4 in Puget sound (1 in Tacoma, the rest in Seattle). I won't muddy waters by suggesting which local clubs should host these. I'm talking about U14 and below here.

        2) Timbers don't directly operate DA teams at the lower age groups, instead outsourcing that to clubs, much as Sounders don't operate DA teams at the lower age groups. Both MLS teams, however, subsidize the DA programs in their respective territories--pay a lot of the expenses (keeping dues down), providing technical assistance, subsidizing van travel between the two cities.

Now, the big can of worms is which clubs get to operate DAs in this model. If the Timbers were simply to select their affiliate clubs (WashT, Westside, and Capitol, assuming ET is not interested), I could see some whining from the other clubs. (If Nike wanted to step up and sponsor players at the Nike clubs, that might help). A big problem is that there is no benefit to local clubs (especially the smaller neighborhood ones) that provide players to the DA--being a feeder gets you nothing, other than an occasional kudos.

But other than the TA, which provides heavily subsidized training and much better facilities, there really isn't that much difference between local DA teams and the local OYSA teams from last year.

          Oregon DA Table
          FC 39pts (16GP)
          WaT 32pts (14GP)
          XF 26pts (16GP)
          WT 24pts (16GP)
          BSC 19pts (16GP)
          CFC 17pts (15GP)
          EaT 0pts (15GP)

4/7 Matches: WaT vs CFC, WT vs BSC, FC vs XF. Bye: EaT

There is talk the Portland and Seattle clubs will combine into one league. I thought the DA was so that kids didn't have to travel very far to play.

I've heard a "one league, two divisions" model, with teams only having one or two travel weekends (i.e. Oregon teams mostly playing Oregon teams, Puget Sound teams mostly playing each other).

Such an arrangement might give TA an advantage--it gets to play the local clubs (which presumably it will be able to beat) a lot and the tough Seattle clubs less. OTOH, standings aren't officially kept and there's no trophy at the end, so this might be a disadvantage as well. And who knows--wouldn't surprise me if someone knocked off the Timbers at some point in the year.

I wouldn't mind an occasional weekend in Seattle--not that much different than going up there for NWCL/FWRL in the pre-DA days. Going up there every other weekend would suck.

Not having to travel is a good goal, but also needs to be squared with the facts on the ground. Cascadia corridor is in its own little corner of the country, with a long drive to any big cities elsewhere (Bay Area, Reno, Salt Lake, Boise, Spokane, Kamloops). And even if you throw in Vancouver BC (which is obviously outside the jurisdiction of US Soccer), there just aren't that many top-level clubs in the northwest.

This was voted down on the 28th of March.

The guinea pigs were the ‘04’s. The Seattle ‘04 DA’s are creating their own version of the DA within the RCL. They are adopting the same standards. I wish we could have teams in this age group that could play in the RCL

Seattle is almost as quick as eugene for us and way closer than Medford, and I am willing to travel for consolidation and development of talent. So yeah I am all for not traveling..

The DA I for much more than so kids don't have to travel very far to play. That's one of the last considerations.
