ADF has 1 dirty player, and some other who lead with their hands on most plays.
FCP has 1 dirty player, and some other who lead with their hands on most plays.
WT has 1 dirty player, and some other who lead with their hands on most plays.
Crossfire has 1 dirty player, and some other who lead with their hands on most plays.
Capital has 1 dirty player, and some other who lead with their hands on most plays.
etc....other than perhaps Bend, all teams at this level have this issue, yet most are willfully blind to anything outside of their team.

And the single most ignorant (and often parroted) remark is "that behavior is obviously taught/condoned by coach and parent". Try looking 6 inches outside of yourself for a change.

Many people have already covered the match itself, which was a physical affair, with one player sent off. The players disciplined have already been called out by number, and if you're curious, OYSA names and shames players with red-cards here: http://oysa-2017oregonstatecup.sport...2-27F40431D8F8. Enough about that though.

Bottom line is--Copa didn't get it done, even with a man advantage. One issue that has plagued the team is lack of depth on defense. FC swiped Copa's starting centerback after fall season, so a forward got moved to the back line (and did very well)--but depth was an issue. The players on Copa's back line are all quite good, but it appears that they ran out of gas--especially after chasing around BSC in a late-evening game Saturday. Given that, I can't blame the players on the field at all--especially the kid who got clobbered, who is one of the nicest players on the roster. They gave it all for their team, and do so every game.

Now that the season is over, it's probably worth recapping the year. Westside was a very good team, but missed out on quite a bit of the hardware it sought, with FC often standing in the way (both in OYSA and NWCL). Westside seems to be doing well in its other goal--that of identifying and developing top talent for the next level (ODP and/or the DA). The trip to Vegas was fun, and reminded the boys that outside of the Pacific Northwest are some VERY good teams that even make Crossfire Premier (the Seattle team) look bad. Winter futsal was lots of fun.

It will be interesting to see who returns next year--this could be a very different team. Quite a few players are interested in the Timbers 05 DA; there will likely be the usual amount of turnover as unhappy families switch clubs (in both directions). Some players may find themselves on Samba next year, and vice versa. There will be a new coach (Mark Evans), as Jaime is taking a new role in the Westside organization. And of course, next year the 05s will be playing 11v11--no more bownet goals (yay), but as the field gets bigger and more players start to develop physically, the sort of players that excel as children may not be the ones who excel as teenagers and young men. Puberty, after all, plays tricks on young athletes. FWRL play will become an issue. Heading will be legal again. Whether a trip to Surf Cup (often talked about) is still in the works, or losing in the semis to FC likely means Copa needs to dial down its tournament ambitions (especially if top players do leave for the DA) is an interesting question.

Speaking of Jaime--his new gig is directing the U11 and under program. U11 seems an interesting cut-off for this role; there are bigger changes after U10 (going to 9v9 and true competitive play) and U12 (going to full-size 11v11 with heading legal again)--but if the Timbers are serious at moving their Academy program to start at U12, then having the TA feeder clubs focus on U11 and below makes some sense. Jaime should probably do well in this role. Whether the 05s next year will still be considered avenue for young talent (late bloomers do happen--puberty, again), or the squad will transition into more of the same role that the HS teams do new (good competitive teams for skilled HS players, but no longer charged with training the Erik Hutardos and Chad Barretts of the world), is an interesting question.

All in all, it's been an interesting season--often fun, sometimes frustrating, never dull. Next season starts soon
Been a great year for your team. We have had our battles, and the year is over. I want you to know (and I have said this before) I appreciate your recaps. Today must have been hard, but I really appreciate this thoughtful and all encompassing recap. Enjoy your break from soccer (sort of) for the next week-ish...or so.

Son, do not pretend to preach. It is the most parroted saying because "Good parents and coaches" stop their kids from doing so. Sorry, but that is the reality. Looking 6 inches outside of myself, and staring directly at you.

Of latter note are Rubio Rubin and Adrian Villegas (curently TA, USMNT U17 team). WT knows that they will lose players to the TA should it be what those players want. In the mean time, the program continues to be available for others focused on college and other careers.

Congrats on an excellent season and may you and your son enjoy the opportunities and learning experiences ahead of you.
          Thanks.

I did omit Mwanga, but I didn't forget him. Rubin and Villegas I excluded because they didn't due HS with Westside--Villegas is in the DA, Rubin went to IMG (not sure if it was the USNT residency program or just the private IMG Academy) for his advanced training.

Oh snap! He done thrown out the "Son"!
If this were high school the rest of us would all run to the courtyard for the brawl and be woefully disappointed in the tickle fight that broke out between you two.
Cut the crap and go to your rooms. Mr/s. High Horse, you also lose your phone privileges for the night.

Rubio split hs time with IMG (USNT residency)/WT.
WT had to sign off a release right after he turned 18.

I mention Villegas because he is part of the transition where TA begins to take credit for development-and avoids payments to the club...

Mwanga was at Jefferson HS 06, 07 & 08 and Westside Metros HS program 06-09. Rubio was at WSM HS program as a frosh 2010-11. Villegas hasn't done any Westside Timbers HS Club playing to date.

Chad B & Eric H did Metros u15 to u19 both and had stints with the USYNT during that same time.

ADF had 2 yellows in the semi as things got chippy with CFC (who's coach was nearly ejected). ADF coach pulled both players as to not risk reds. How the hell does OYSA does not staff side judges for state cup games (all ages)? 1 ref can never see the stuff that goes on off the ball in this emotionally charged atmosphere.

Looking forward to a great match on Sunday

When you get boat raced next week by FC (and make no mistake, it will be a blood letting) I hope that you can accept that the fact that the better team won. Do not make excuses.
Weird how at least one Crossfire parent several times in the last two days have called for "cleats up" "bloodletting" etc. Truly vile! And by vile, I meant the special troll level of vile where they "wish" for their and other kids to hurt our kids. Other Crossfire parents might want to muzzle this scum.

Crossfire *Seattle* has invited ADF up for friendlies because our kids can play with skill.

Not enough refs sign up. Consider also that many refs typically used as ARs are also soccer players.

We tried to get players and their families to sign up for ref training. You can do it as a fundraiser.

Cynical answer - more margin for the Timbers.
Probably more accurate answer- US Soccer has been pushing single ref for 9v9.

If we are going single ref, than we need to abolish or modify off sides at that age. Off sides is difficult enough to get right with linesman; without it, ref has to guess a few times per game (it is impossible to watch the ball, last defender and attacker all at the same time; linesman struggle with, for centers it can be impossible).

I suspect the latter--and just as youth games are for training kids to play soccer, they appear to be for training referees. Howard Webb is not going to show up and ref your kid's U12 game, no matter how far into the State Cup it is.

                                What modification would you propose?
