Good looking bunch. I am pretty sure one of those kids is a Rogue Valley player who was strong at ODP state pool tryouts. People need to relax. They seemed to have pick the top player or two from a variety of clubs in state and the relevant out of state region. That is about the distribution one would expect.

So the best talent is not selected?
Or talent is selected regardless of position?
Excuse my ignorance, but their seems to be a lot more going on here than where I come from. I am used to the best few kids from each position being selected.

It's probably time everyone let the kid be (as a data point for your argument).

Whether this kid will be part of the Timbers U12 DA team when it forms next May, or simply is on an ad-hoc team that was formed for the Generation Adidas cup, I have no idea. (None of my kids are involved in any of this).
Also, it remains an open question as to how many players will be selected on the basis of an open tryout, and how many already have a spot more or less guaranteed. The coaching staff has been actively studying and recruiting the local talent pool, so I'm sure opinions on many players have already been made (and before anyone whines about this--this is how competitive high-end sports often works. Teams scout and recruit--having to staff a team with an open tryout is often considered a failure of the coaching staff to do its job). OTOH, there will be a tryout session, and if you are interested, you might contact the coaching staff to let them know you are coming (and that you are relocating from out-of-state, and here's your son's playing resume, so they know that you're not a local club player they've already considered and passed over).
A more interesting thing about the photo is it has only nine kids. Are the Timbers travelling down to Texas without a bench? They've got four games in two days, that could get interesting, especially if someone were to get hurt.

No system is perfect, this forum, being anonymous, allows people to voice their opinions good and bad without repercussion. Which isn't always a bad thing.

This is not likely to be the place where you will get an objective analysis of which club has the best combination of development, coaching, good families, and enjoyable experiences. There is too much bias and animus among too many posters. There are many good posters here, but it is hard to hear them between the shouting.
In the end, the problem is not with soccer in Oregon. The problem is with some of the bad apples on this board.

See which you like. Then contact the club and ask questions.

Hi, I am apparently one of the shouters and I would like to weigh in. Honestly, given your location and your history with commuting for your son to play soccer...you have a of options. There are a lot of good clubs in the area, with a lot of great coaches. Yes, sometimes we get cranky on here but I truly appreciate the diversity of the different clubs, and I would never say a negative about any of them. It sounds like you have been given some different club names, as well as some suggestions to go watch the age group play in State Cup. All great advice. Welcome to Oregon, and I hope your family and Son fi d a great fit.

And, while no one has identified him by name, there is now a photo and enough descriptors of him that I worry that the young man is being excessively maligned. And perhaps that is worse than letting him play in the tournament or the DA. He's eleven and any favoritism he might (or might not) receive does not genuinely limit the long term soccer future of anyone else. Unfair? Perhaps. Genuinely limiting to anyone else in the long run? Doubtful.
