The other poster's comment was, however, a correct summary of the match. First half was back and forth, with both sides having similar numbers of good chances. Navy had at least one shot cleared off the line, and there were a few Copa shots that I don't know how they were saved but they were. Scoreless at half.
In the second half, both coaching staffs starting liberally using their benches (unlike the last time, in which game playing time was handed out sparingly). The ten minutes or so of the second half looked like the first. Finally, Navy broke through and caught Copa's defense out of position, and was able to isolate one defender on the side of the penalty box, and chipped it in.
Copa kept pressing forward for the equalizer, but didn't get it, and with a few minutes left Navy scoured the second on a tap-in goal on the counter-attack. A frustration foul in the last minute yielded a DFK, which produced the final goal.
Navy does seem to figure out how to neutralize Copa, or at least slow them down. 1) Be physical and fast to the ball, and try to take them out of their passing game. Get in their face at every opportunity. Wear them down. 2) Getting the first goal is crucial--make them play from behind. 3) Be patient--Copa usually defends counters very well, but occasionally they will make a mistake.
Now, that's as derogatory as this recap gets--this was a close game until the final five. (It wasn't like that last game in Vegas, which was an a**-whooping). But Navy got the result. Both teams finish Spring League with a game against WT FC Red 1, and Navy also has a [s]bye[/s]game against PCU next weekend, then on to State Cup.

watched an 04G division 2 match this weekend, and both keepers tossed to their back line far more than FC

The main beef with "bootball" is that if played at too young ages, it leaves players developmentally stunted--you have kids that can't handle ball pressure and ONLY know how to boot it in the air. Top-level defenses can beat bootball teams.
That said, FC is certainly talented enough that I wouldn't call them a "bootball" team, even though longballs are a major part of their game. They can bring the ball up on the ground--they often choose not to.
