Club flew in an incredible guest coach from Brazil. What a wonderful cultural experience for everyone involved and I hope your clubs are able to enrich your children's soccer experience at such an impressionable age the same way. He may need to return to Brasil in a few months, or not. Our political climate here has drastically changed in the past week and remaining in the US is feeling a lot less safe and desirable for our beloved friends from other countries, particularly those south of the border. What a terrible tragedy. These Boys are still in excellent hands at ADF. So grateful to be a part of such a wonderfully diverse club.

It would be very unfortunate if a foreign guest coach (someone who is here legally, I presume) were force to leave due to politics. And other clubs shouldn't get snarky about this--quite a few have Latino coaches (Westside, in particular, has many Latinos on staff; specific to this thread, ALL of its 05B coaches are Latino).

Even people who are here legally--or who were even born here--might have reason to be fearful. The president-elect went way beyond complaining about illegal immigration, and said quite a few nasty things about Mexicans specifically; there's plenty of his supporters who would like to see legal immigrants leave as well. What will happen? I don't know.

But if clubs are losing good coaches for this reason, that is not something to gloat about.

Why would any coach and his family from south of the border want to come to the US right now? How terrifying. People chanting "build that wall", spraypainting swastikas on buildings, a country full of millions of people that just elected a president who promised to get latinos out.
All of the foreign media refers to DT as a fascist. What did people expect? I hope everyone that reads this really understands the gravity of this situation. Yes this will be affecting families in all of our communities. Many families are feeling very frightened and unsure of their futures in Oregon and across the country right now.

I'm not entirely sure I believe that. The alt-right folks don't really mind illegal immigrants from Canada or Germany, I suspect, and many of 'em hate Mexicans whether or not they are illegal immigrants, green card holders, or have been here for three generations and are US citizens.

Trump doesn't seem to know--or care--about the longstanding boundaries of his office. Many of us fear he might turn into Vladimir Putin, or worse. And it seems that for many people here, that would be a good trade-off--if democracy permits liberals to win elections, then let's get rid of it. We need to destroy the village to save it from the Village.
