You need to re-direct your "lack of transparency" comment to the MLS.
Think about why MLS has DAs in the first place and then consider that WT-or any other youth club doesn't benefit from a DA because:
1. The purpose of the DA is solely to develop a pool of future professional MLS players.
2. Although youth clubs in other parts of the world receive a percentage (1%-ish) compensation for players they trained under FIFA training and solidarity rules, the MLS has refused to pay U.S. youth soccer clubs and colleges.
Chapter VII, Article 20 of FIFA Regulations: "Training compensation shall be paid to a player's training club(s): (1) when a player signs his first contract as a professional and (2) each time a professional is transferred until the end of the season of his 23rd birthday."
Source:http://resources.fifa.com/mm/documen...5e_neutral.pdf
(see page 25)
It should be noted that the MLS does pay and does receive Status and Transfer of Players compensation under the FIFA rule for international players here and for U.S. players abroad. Meaning if any of our youth players who then play in the MLS and go on to play elsewhere in the world, the MLS clubs make money off of them whenever those players transfer anytime between the players' 18th and 23rd birthdays.
3. The FIFA regulation Article 20 was put in place to protect children, yes children, recruited into the professional clubs the exploited and often dumped somewhere far away from their families.
4. When the MLS implemented the DA program, it intentionally began the process to have young players involved. The reason being that FIFA considers "training and development" to begin at age 12 and ends at 21 for first-time professional players.
5. The MLS and USSF were dealing with potential lawsuits from some youth clubs to be reimbursed for training and development under Article 20, so the MLS acted to get 12-year-old players into the DAs as soon as possible. This way, youth clubs could not be credited with training and development, therefore they couldn't receive compensation.
6. The USSF and MLS argued that to compensate our youth clubs would put them in conflict with a child labor law, 1998 antitrust case, Fraser v. MLS.
Note- Three youth clubs just lost a District Court decision this pat March so those clubs are appealing to FIFA.

7. My son played for WT. Cony always told the boys how tough it was to play professionally. He'd also say to us, "If you want to play DA, then God Bless you. Go."
He and the club were proactive in helping the players that stayed to pursue college if that's what they wanted instead. Some players left DA and wanted to come back. The boys voted to let them re-join the team. No one lost a spot.
Not sure what you mean by a "community partner." Could you explain?
Thank you.

Speaking from experience, I have had a child with WS and another with a non TA club. There are similarities in that they both play soccer. But that is it. I would assume that they meant WS is not considered a good community partner in the sense that their reputation is rather sleazy. Win at all costs, sure. But at what price? They are arrogant as a club, and treat their consumers as if they are lucky to be allowed to be affiliated with WS. As long as people know this going in, cool.
No. Didn't strike "my nerve."
I saw errors in the OP's statement and offered information that the OP could have readily found but for whatever reason, took an emotional and misinformed path.
Policy and how it's affected youth soccer in this area is relevant-especially when people are making personal choices and might not understand the history.
Since you'e not the OP, what happened to you and your child to use the term, "sleazy?"
What is the arrogance you mention? Not my experience, but of course, whomever else was involved in your experience could also tell a story different from you or even like you. Who made you feel the way you described? Interesting.

That kid is on age and is actually a younger 05. Dad gets so much crap about him that he carries proof of birth with him at all times. Kid is a man-child for sure but posting a link like that about him is just gross.

Is what I'm reading true that this developmental academy for the timbers already has the team selected and that the upcoming tryouts would be a waste of time?
If so, what would be the next best option?
We live in the Sherwood area.
I appreciate the responses. Thank you

They have the best 04 DA team with 05's on the roster, record wise, this year with a high quality group of coaches that the boys enjoy. The 05 group that plays premier has kids from Sherwood on that team and they are the 2 seed in state cup. Just another place to consider. Problem you have is this- too many teams with different agendas and complaints about each other. Also, no just 05 DA in Oregon. Timbers will have a just 05 team, but you will have to travel to Seattle and eastern Washington for every game each weekend. Not ideal in any fashion and already politics and checkbooks are determining roster spots so I am not sure what level of you know what you are willing to deal with. I would recommend visiting practice and or games of the top 4 teams and going from there- here are the top 4 based on state cup seedings from fall league results: 1)FC Portland 2)Crossfire, 3)ADF and 4)Westside Timbers
