Thorns will give scholarships to the top ECNL players and the rest will follow. Most of the current Thorns Academy will be replaced by better players that will get to play & travel for free - for one year at least.

I've heard talk they are going to dangle money to draw elite talent but I'm not sure they are able to without affecting eligibility.
Honest question. I'm not sure how this works.

Or maybe that's not the complete truth???
The GDA didn't need to entice any top players from the ECNL League, the top performing clubs in the ECNL applied to the GDA, got accepted and will put their top players on 3 different GDA teams in 2017-18.
The GDA had no teams, clubs accepted just a month ago, so in an effort to create the nation's top flight league for girls soccer, the best clubs in the country have decided to combine their elite players into 3 teams and play in the GDA in 2017-18.
The GDA is enticing only the Best players from the Top Clubs in ECNL from across the USA, players from FC PDX and CU are not of that ilk, otherwise their clubs would of been invited or at least accepted into the GDA. They weren't on either front, Sorry bout that reality.

Ecnl in oregon was a mistake. It has shown to not benefit the collegiate numbers compared to prior. But now teams have overloaded rosters, development is an after thought, costs are way more, coaches have no accountability to the players.
If you cant even see that. You ve been fooled.

The Girls DA will last 2-3 seasons. They won't get the best players and in Oregon will be even worse. Way too expensive and they overcharge the girls so they profit and can use that profit to fund boys travel.
Why do they fund boys travel but not girls?

They are funding girls travel similar to the boys.
Per the USSF budget -- for both boys and girls -- the USSF funds all expenses to the DA finals tournament. The USSF also funds -- on a need basis -- travel expenses for boys and girls DA (once the DA is started). Also, one of the key factors sought by the USSF from girls DA clubs is a commitment to offer 3-4 full ride scholarships per team.
The idea, of course, is to make high level youth soccer more available to kids who cannot otherwise afford the experience.
