OYSA is running a U15 fall league this year for clubs that can field teams in it. It will not count as a qualifying league for state up but will allow 02s a chance to play in the fall.

Most kids don't have that luxury. Most club coaches are outdated and treat it as a job. Or kids play for ecnl clubs which is all about the competition and very little development.

I think it would be fairly unappealing to just train with no games for 3 months, even if the training is fun. Training and games are two different things. My kids think that games are fun. Even if there is no "league" for them, I would hope that the coaches set up friendlies or something. Although I suppose some teams may not have a full 11 players who are at U15 but in 8th grade. I guess they could do 9v9 or 8v8 or something. Maybe talk a handful of teams into forming futsal teams and play an 8-10 game season of futsal while they are training outside. Don't need OYSA to organize any of this, just get some coaches to call each other and come up with something.

That's what I'm hoping will happen but it will take somebody to organize it - clubs or coaches. Doesn't have to be anything formal, let teams borrow players if necessary. Training is all well and good but three months of no games would be a drag for most kids who love the game. Their HS teammates will come back finely tuned (if not somewhat beaten up). The trapped 8th graders are already the youngest on the team and now they'll be weeks of no game play either. Doesn't do anyone any good to have them not playing

There will be a U15 fall league. If your club can't find enough kids to enter a team then that is a different problem.

The Birth Year change went super smooth at our club. We love it!

I actually can see this being an issue for a number of the smaller clubs who only have one team at the age group. I don't see them having 11 U15 8th graders. Larger clubs with two or three teams should have plenty of players for at least one team. For those teams that don't have enough players, what I would do is see if you can scrounge up a few extra players to get to enough for a team and play in a rec league. It's not the best solution in the world, but it gives them games.

There has never been a u15 Fall league for girls. Doubt they start one with most of the u15 players playing HS ball in the fall.

Any club that can't field a single team at a certain age group due to the change to birth year is also playing in D1, D2, etc. They can all just 'play up' and adjust divisions if needed. Bonus is that get to stay together.

Here's a couple of references to the U15 fall league on club websites:

The number of spelling errors in this article make it difficult for me to feel confident in the intelligence of those in charge at OYSA. Just as a pointer - it's means "it IS." Its implies possession.

So when you say "a team will play the age group of IT'S oldest member," you are really saying "a team will play the age group of it is oldest member."

Are clubs going to charge extra for this optional fall league for 8th grade u15s? Will OYSA allow unlimited club passes so that players from different small clubs can join together easily?
