Hard work, yes. But not a job.

Getting back to age group, the kids should be playing within their ages such as U14. It will be good for those players that move up, because they will get used to playing with older players as they will be doing when they play high school and college soccer.

What are they doing with the 8th graders who are now U15? Since they won't be playing HS in the fall, will they do something for them or will fall be a waste of time for them?

Those kids could really get screwed. I think our club may let them practice with the younger team all fall but they can't play league games. Maybe clubs could organize something informal since so many kids are impacted?

You must come from a club where training is like a job. The kids at our club are bent out of shape each time the session is over. The sessions are so good and fun that they constantly want more.
Most kids don't have that luxury. Most club coaches are outdated and treat it as a job. Or kids play for ECNL clubs which is all about the competition and very little development.
