Club is not a school organization. This make no sense. If your child wants to play with friends she/he should play in the local cmmunty league. I am not downing rec. I just don't understand your logic. My son wanted to play club to be competitive. It has nothing to do with school friends.

Wrong moron. All public schools allow only 4 years of eligibility. So if this dufus that played in 8th grade...he will not be able to play as a senior. This is a fact in most states for public schools and as a fact is not debatable. Moron.

Yes. There really isn't any benefit to the change. But as long as we can raise fees to offset the loses, it will be fine.

In Oregon it also applies to private schools.

There is the middle ground - "travel." It isn't rec, which is typically run via a town park and rec department and is usually just internal town games. Travel clubs, usually nonprofit, affiliated with the town made up of town players that travel to other towns. Those players - who certainly will never be NT level, do want to play with their friends and classmates, maybe play in high school one day - should stick with the school calendar system. And even some "rec" programs like AYSO are impacted by this because they fall under the umbrella.

"Club" has players that come from towns all over, like your son. They don't have the social issue and the age change won't be a big deal. Some kids will have to change teams and clubs have to figure out what to do with trapped players. But you won't see parents panicking there unless their kid is trapped or they are foolish enough to think their kid will lose some non-existent advantage if they're no longer the oldest player.

If these travel teams are made up of town players that travel then playing with "friends" shouldn't be a big deal. Most of the team will be unchanged by the new rules so they will still be playing with a lot of kids they always played with. And for those displaced, they will still be playing with kids who are from their town, so likely there will be some friends in there. This whole change is a non issue.

Gonna happen, just like everywhere else.

Birth year brings us in line with the rest of the world, sorry some of you can't figure out why. You're new to the sport if it doesn't make sense, so stay out of the way, and just keep your b*tching to this board.....where it and you belong.

But even for the teams that do have issues there is a solution. It's called recreational soccer. Recreational soccer is a great place for kids that use the sport for fun and socializing.
If you have a kid that wants more than that you have Premier soccer. If your child chooses premier soccer then that will require the parent and player to wear big girl pants and expect some travel, no garaunteed playing time and no trophy for participation at the end of the season

Who the hell cares about international standards in girls soccer?

That might be the dumbest statement on talking soccer today which is saying a lot

Do not spend any time looking for the benefit in this change. There are none. Especially on the girl side.

Be in goal for elite girls soccer players typically is college. That would mean it would be in the best interest of our girls to be not be on birth year.

Ummmmmmmm, no one cares about girls soccer except you knuckleheads on this site.

Girls soccer is essentially soccer played underwater

Hint: this change has nothing to do with girls soccer

Those who are against this are the ones who like to play in leagues where every kid gets a trophy.
