    Interesting Thread

Someone did their homework on this subject matter detailing the (FC Portland) history, inception and highlighted some of the horrific mistakes this group has made over the past 20+ years. Mistakes happen of course & hopefully this club has been able to learn from them.

How it all began with Clive Charles inviting all the top players from local area club teams to come get some additional training from himself and his staff. Without letting these kids and their families know this was really a ploy to create a new club. By robbing all the other local clubs of their top flight talent, by simply telling the clubs this was just additional training to better yourself at your current club and guess what all the clubs sent all their best kids without realizing what the grand scheme really was..Poor Suckers...

This documented fact or what some would call trickery explains the club's culture, ethos and character that still resonates in today's modern market.

Please don't turn over any more rocks this week.

This is a sad truth that has been buried for years.

Here is a list of FC Failures and Lies

Started out as a training academy only. Then decided to form a Club taking players from Clubs that were there for training only ( they had told people they would never form a club)

Y-League - Failure and money pit. Games all over NW and Canada, sometimes mixed ages on team and last minute cancellations, etc...

USDA - tried boys academy, miserable failure, out of state teams refused to play FC because it was waste of time to travel. USSF decided to pull academy before it became more embarrassing

WDA - another failure and money pit.

U of P Affiliation - see recent article on demise of program

ECNL - people will wake up and figure out the money is not worth it.

Recruiting of latino players... for many years FC was a "ginger club" and decided that they wanted to stop getting their behinds handed to them by teams with latino players.. Now they give them a free ride and other goodies to stay with the Club but kill their creativity and development.

This is just a short list of FC failures and lies and misinformation and shows the lack of direction with this Club. I am just happy my kid is done with soccer in this area.
If I had to make a bet this, this post is from a jealous THUSC parent! We all need to stop writing about how poor clubs are in Oregon. THEY ARE ALL BAD!
Westside - No ethics or morals whatsoever. No structure and no plan. Ran by an out of control DOC.
FCP - Who runs the club? The plan is to bring as many players in as possible so we can fund the wage bill.
THUSC - Ran by a DOC who should be on Sesame street. Everyone hates him, coaches, board members, all the boys. They say they have a psychologist for the club? Well if he was any good I think his recommendation would be to get rid of 'Elmo' who runs it. So the shrink can't be that good. No plan, no structure (oh yes! The plan is to see how many girls teams we can get in the state cup finals) and no idea.
BSC - Who? Plan is to align with as many clubs as possible so salaries can be paid.
Eastside - The plan just fizzled out and they gave in to parent pressure. It was working but then they went back to how everyone else does it.
        NEU - Numbers game again.
Lake Oswego - No identity anymore
        Southside - Stop!
Willamette - Got to get those numbers up to foot the bill.
And this is it ladies and gentlemen. The future of Oregon soccer is above for all to see. Now isn't that inspiring?

It sounds a lot like how Westside uses RTC/ODP. They get to see some better kids from other clubs, get their contact info, develop a relationship and then start recruiting.

Well when you put it like that, it doesn't look so good.

Not just Westside. Every RTC "host" is doing this. It's been very effective for our club - especially on the girls side where lots of talented girls are still playing with their friends on rec or lesser club teams. We easily ply their parents with how their superior talents are being wasted on their inferior little team and how we can totally see them playing college soccer if they just get the proper development. Most take it hook line and sinker.

You are all donkeys. None of your kids will be professional players and less than 4% statewide will play at ANY level in college. It will be over before you know it and you can all go back to your...well, wait...do you actually do anything but obsess over little kids soccer.

They have always been a recruit scam. The players that are there are replaced from kids from other clubs. Parents fall for the UP carrot but find out that it doesn't help.

Just watch you kid and realize that no one cares whether they do well or replaced. Typical fcp.
Recruit scam is a perfect way to put it.

Funny thing is that FC doesn't even have to recruit. Kids can't wait to get out of the Timbers clubs and into a club that actually teaches them how to play soccer. Have to turn more kids away than Timbers clubs get in new intake every year.

Funny thing is that you have no clue. FC constantly uses the UoP carrot. They can't ever stop talking about the past like it is stil relevant. FC constantly recruits under false pretenses.

Keep spinning that old lie if it makes you feel good. Just because they didn't show any interest in your DD doesn't mean they have to convince others to move. Gates are open, come on in if you're good enough.

Oregon soccer for Dummies! This explains it so well that even a 5 year old would understand it. Why do OR parents not get it? The one part I disagree on is associating Elmo with the THUSC DOC. That's a little harsh on Elmo.

That's funny cause FC takes everyone. They are only after the mighty buck.
The answer to anything that is critical is "you must have been cut or not selected "
Instead of having a real point.

FC supporters can't seem to handle that the initial thread was very factual and on point. This club knows nothing about developing players . They think teaching tactics proves they know soccer. Tactics are easy to teach . The technical part is hard to teach but is the necessary building block in developing a player. Watch their coackes, they set up drills ,they don't know the purpose of the drill and to compound it they don't correct player mistakes , instead they watch ,when they are not on their phone, players continue to make the same mistakes with no correction. That's babysitting but not development .

You've clearly never attended an FC practice. You're so full of BS your eyes must be brown.
