Birth Year + Coed thru U14 for Development

Now that US Soccer has made the move to birth year, next up is coed teams through U14. Consultants have noted this will help drive development.

    - Teams will be required to roster 50% girls and 50% boys.

    - Playing time cumulative over each half will be required to be exactly 50/50 at all times.

    - And every player should get equal time throughout the season at every position which will require statisticians at games starting at U8.

    - This will run through U14 at which time they will split to boys and girls teams.

This won't be easy or popular but it's critical we start moving in a positive direction with development.

In a couple of years everyone will be glad we've done this.

Mandatory by 2017. Early adoption recommended.

SoCal and Washington are said to be rolling out coed trainings this month. Progressive unlike Oregon.

This is simply a smart move that will allow us to keep pace with what is happening internationally. The only people who are whining about this are the people that stand to get bumped to the B team.

I've been advocating for this for ten years. Finally. What does OYSA have to say about roll out?

This is stupid. Are they going to grandfather age groups or just shift midstream?

They should extend coed games through high school - a ton more kids would stay in & even join soccer!

This is dumb. Boys are a lot more physical than girls starting young. For petes sake has everyone lost their minds?

We have done this for the last two years with our girls indoor team sort of. We play boys almost exclusively. The girls are more physical and tougher and it really shows when we play girls.

Great idea for the girls will help their game immensely. Screws the boys though but in two years you will see the benifits.

Must be an Eastside team. Made up of cave girls.
