Precisely. Go ahead and play up a year...you'll soon see it our way.

Also love how they moved all the age groups up a year without mentioning they said something complete different 2 months ago. Now kids will be going to 11v11 even sooner than currently -the opposite of the small sided mandates. Geniuses!

It's not a bad idea. It's not about winning. Development is helped with a faster speed of play.

Well, they also said players need more touches on the ball to develop. Won't be much development when you rarely touch the ball vs teams up to 18months older. Guess teams could drop a division or two and just play against older less skilled teams that will try to win by physical force/size instead. Injuries galore. Plus, a lot of kids would do better to be a star on their birth year, than play up. Have fun with that.

          Alright mr negative.

We've played up with great success. If you have high level players, playing up CAN BE a good idea.

A few strong players playing up a year is fine. Birth year already moves the August players up 5 months. An entire team playing up (vs up to 18months older players) simply isn't in the best interest of the entire teams. Of course the Aug to Dec players want all their teammates to have to move up with them. I have two fall bday kids and it is a rough change. The older birth year teams will simply be better which is why even the best teams in SoCal are switching to birth year. Even they won't be competitive anymore if they "just stay together to play with your friends". Rec teams will do it but no decent club will.

You have said the same thing 50 times. "no decent club will. no good club will"

You know what, a few very good clubs are going to let some groups stay together. And US soccer is encouraging this so that they don't have a fleet of angry parents running them out of their cushy well paid jobs.

Just checked the newest and greatest information. My Jan '04 kid will now be u13 next year. Before people jump down my throat, I realize the "uwhatever" indicator may not mean anything ... But the important piece is that he will be 11v11 next year. May be ok for him, but what about the Fall 04's? They will be losing a year of small sided play, right? Never mind the Fall 03's on his team who will be bumped to u14 (I know. I know... It's 03, not U14)... But they will be "missing" a first year of 11v11 play. This is all a mess! Unless I'm reading all this wrong?

Uh oh... Just adding to my own comment here to say as I think about it, my club/kids situation could be even worse than what I thought 20 mins ago when I posted the above. Three of the better players (not best players) on his team are actually 05's. When I was considering that the 04's would be playing another year of 9 v 9, I was thinking that they would be included in the numbers of 04's ... but I would have to guess that at that point (bumping to 11 v 11) those 3 would very likely chose another year at 9 v 9 with their actual age group. My kids situation at his club is looker bleaker by the day. Too bad really as we've had a great experience there.

                    2004s will be U12, not U13. They will play 9v9. The fall 2003s will play U13. 11v11.

I fully understand what you are saying and that is what I believed to be true as well... However, when you look at what is posted on their website that is not what is there.

On the link for the website it specifically shows for 2016-2017 year 04's will be "U13" (I know ignore the "U13", but still that correlates to 11 v 11) per that same link.

It's page 20 on the pdf... birth year chart.

I am willing to bet that you are correct... I'm just questioning why they are fixing that.

Should say "why they aren't fixing that"?

Why is your sons situation looking bleaker. Why are you looking to get out of soccer? How does this negatively impact that? Your sons team will not be competitive without those three kids? What about the kids a year ahead who will now be playing with your son's team?

2004's will be U13 next year. That's the final decision from US Soccer.

Not looking to get out of soccer. My son's situation is looking bleaker at the club he is at now.... not necessary other clubs. I know the makeup of his team.... and the players in the age groups surrounding his... It's not good for my son, unless there happens to be some good recruiting in the Spring. The impact with those kids is yes due to a numbers game the loss of those 3 05's will hurt the team (again due to makeup of the team -- his team has a lot of good 03's too). So, in thinking it through it would be ok if the good 05's were included in the team ... but if the 04's move to 11 v 11 and the 05's decide to stay with another year of 9 v 9 (along with losing our core 03's), my son's age group will be decimated. It's just how it is in our own *particular* situation. I still can't believe these idiots are bumping the age groups up (i.e. 2003's essentially moving to U14)? This is the craziest situation that I have ever heard of... Especially with the emphasis being on development. What is going on?
