FcPdx should be fine too. Eastside and Westside might actually benefit from the rearranging. Maybe Thusc too. Not sure about Eugene & Bend. This may break up Bend & Eugene's few strong teams - or change them to different age groups.

One of my kids (on a top team already) will end up having an even stronger team. The younger will likely end up on an overall weaker team in the older year but that will give her a challenge & perhaps help her individually with ODP.

Why is OYSA silent on this. If the band aid is being ripped off next spring at tryouts, fine. BUT let us know!!!

In response to a U.S. Soccer Federation mandate beginning in August 2017, Washington Youth Soccer and the Regional Club Subcommittee have committed to transition from a school-year (Aug. 1 – July 31) registration model to a calendar-year (Jan. 1 – Dec. 31) registration model, effective for the 2016-2017 Regional Club League (RCL) season.
For more information on the transition to calendar-year registration for Regional Clubs, please contact the Director of Coaching for your Club.
Beginning in the 2016-2017 RCL season:

All teams will be based on calendar-year age classifications:
U18/19 for players born in 1999/98
U17 for players born in 2000
U16 for players born in 2001
U15 for players born in 2002
U14 for players born in 2003
U13 for players born in 2004
U12 for players born in 2005
U11 for players born in 2006
U10 for players born in 2007
RCL Jr for players born in 2008 and after

All tryouts will be staggered to midweek start dates so that players finishing State Cup play can do so without conflict.

Players will not be required to purchase new jerseys if there is a duplicate number on the new teams formed. Clubs will be required to mark the jersey numbers with alternate colors (distinct bright color, either a patch or dye) until the next uniform cycle for the team.

All teams in RCL play will ‘hold’ their current position unless evaluated by the club as requiring a move down for competitive purposes.

Washington Youth Soccer will announce further information on the rollout of changes from USSF and US Youth Soccer. Check WashingtonYouthSoccer.org or your Club’s website for additional updates.
I like how they are sure to mention the overlapping number possibility, because that's going to be high on the kid's list of complaints, but not the fact that now half their BFF's are on a different team, or that if they are an late 02 they just lost a season of soccer, or if they are a late any year they just got screwed over

So your December 2002 will go from U13 to U14. It's the younger kids on the team, the Jan-July 2003's that will stay in U13 for another year.

          Basically, for the 2016-17 season:

          U11: 2005
          U12: 2004
          U13: 2003
          U14: 2002
          U15: 2001
          U16: 2000
          U17: 1999
          U18: 1998
NPL shows birth year for boys but school age for girls.

I was thinking the same thing! Basically, this totally screws all the Sept-Dec birthday kids in a bunch of ways. Especially on the girls side since girls (even the great athletes) tend to be more concerned with the social aspect and developed relationships.

Yep. That's the way it is right now.

It could be a problem in 8th grade if you're at a club with only 1 team or less per age group. At the end of HS it works out as you have two years combined to ensure enough players, not unlike what happens today.

It's still a problem because the number of equally competitive players goes WAY down. No matter how you slice it, the Sept-Dec kids are royally screwed - at least the pretty good ones. The super elite ones and the lower level ones won't feel much effect.

The real money is at the national team level so the kiddie game is irrelevant.

You can either do what the national admin says or there's the door.

Bring it on, will be fun to mix things up and have new teams. You people freaked out about change are so boring.

Yes, parents of Jan-April kids are jumping for joy. Not only the oldest on birth teams but don't have to compete vs your older Sept-Dec classmates and get to be viewed playing with and against the kids in the younger grade. 4 months (Sept-dec) of kids have effectively been booted from the game & college so that the men's national team might better develop some diamond in the rough Jan-April boy who is currently a u9 or younger...in California!

Get this loud and clear. The people making the rules don't care about kids. Period. You have zero say in the matter.

I know. That's why I'm griping on TS. Nothing else I can do. Are there any sports that don't hose the Sept-Dec kids so badly? Maybe she's young enough to switch.

So a kid is now "hosed" because she's not the oldest? I guess I should have planned my procreation a little more thoroughly.
