ECNL $10,000/yr vs Thorns Academy $500/yr

Spending $8-9,000 per year to play in the elite club league is running top players off. The ecnl is watered down to the point of being rec+.
No new coaches or training. It's too expensive.

If ECNL is Rec+, what does that make the OYSA league that the Thorns Academy is playing in? Tiny Tots? Little Kickers? Get a grip buddy.

How about you show us exactly how you can get the same level of competition and training for less cost? Not less for less, but the same for less. If such a thing existed, don't you think it would be well known and very popular?

Thorns has a few players but not a good team. There are no "all-star" teams. ECNL is where it's at if your DD is any good. Just ask the girls that have already decided to move from Thorns to ECNL even before the Thorns start their awesome 5-game FWRL and 10-game OYSA Rec+ league.

They moved as a panic since they are not receiving any offers and are hopeful ECNL will turn the tide.

Adding more teams to ecnl will just improve the quality.

I know one of the girls that moved. Her and her parents aren't stupid. As soon as they realized that the Timbers was selling snake oil they bolted for a known top-level program. Wait and watch. I'd be surprised if the Academy wins half their games in FWRL. That'll really attract the D1 coaches...

This isn't about D1 coaches. Stop the nonsense! These are the same girls they were last year just more practice sessions. If they were on track last year they will continue. Stop making this out to be about college. Some of the girls just want to play soccer. Ever thought about that?? There's nothing magical about playing in a different league. Quit trying to put pressure on the girls!

The reality is, there aren't many D1 offers left to for the U17s. The Big Sky and conferences like that are still recruiting, but the top conferences are done or will be after the California Fall season. There are lots of D2 and D3 schools looking and in fact, many are just kicking off. Ditto NAIA. But if you are looking for top D1, you can stop. If you are looking for lower D1, you have to move quickly. By Spring, most of those will be done as well.

True. They may not be playing Thorns for a D1 shot but they are definitely playing to get something, anything at d2/d3/NAIA/etc. Otherwise, they'd just stay at their club or just be playing on their high school team if they truly "just want to play soccer".

The whole point of the Thorns was try to stop the hemorrhaging of talent to ECNL from the 'alliance'. The last thing everyone is going to do, is sit down and have a pow wow.

And the whole point of ECNL was so Tom could flash a finger at Gavin for pulling most of the OPL boys into OYSA and the Timber's academy.
