With TE as the Academy coach you are going there?

Seriously with TE as the head coach of the Academy you are going to go there? There are 20 coaches in the CU ECNL and all of them are more or as qualified as TE.

Pick another "feature" of the Academy because that is not a clear cut winner!

All of them eh? Now that's a funny joke. They are more like a scrap heap of coaches. Anytime someone tries to claim FM is a qualified coach then they've lost all credibility.

Okay 19 out of 20. I suggest that you do a little more research on TE as a head coach than the Timbers did before thinking TE is a coach worthy of the assignment. They had 10 other choices more qualified and yet reached for the one with the most baggage and the least experience......(head shaking from side to side)

It's more like $2000 (for training fees) / 200 practices (which will be a little high, but counting games and friendlies, etc. maybe). The other $1600 to 7k (depending on age group) is for traveling. Either way your math sucks. But you are right, it is a very good deal. That's why my dd signed on.

2000 less player cards, league fees, admin, etc = about $1000 you are paying towards the training portion, right?

If you include travel and parent travel it seems like a large number but with just training it's a pretty good deal.

Any way you skin it the cat won't like it but has to accept the truth.

But but wait!!! It costs $12,000 because mommy and daddy want to take trips and travel all over with their DD who gets to play to competition across the West Coast and country.

It's a much better deal to play the $500 (cuz that's all it will cost you know) for the Thorns academy and play in a few college showcase tournaments. I'm sure they will pay for mommy and daddy to travel too!

That's not true! Thorns Academy is not $500. I know it's subsidized, but still they said it could cost north of $3k.

And the $12,000 number for ECNL is inflated. That's including parent travel which really doesn't count.

Maybe the Timbers should spend a little more money on players before subsidizing a college showcase team. They are embarrassingly bad.

What could they get for the $20K

It looks like they are chipping in between $15-20,000 for the Academy this season. How good of a player could they get if they added that to the pot. Aren't there limitations on what they can spend?

Good point. I should have broken the 2k even more.

That will cover one out of state tourney. They are either not going anywhere or their estimated costs are a little deflated.

I've run the numbers having written checks for the FWRL, Vegas & Regionals and figure that the actual travel expense for the schedule is going to hit their $3,600 per player cap. Therefore to cover the coaching salary, travel and per diem they are going to be kicking in $15,000 plus depending if one or two coaches travel.

They will get to keep a portion of the $1,250 club fee from the 5-7 players player's NOT attending events but that will not exceed $5,000 and could be less if 20 players go to the three showcases and regionals..

First off, the Timbers have the lowest or one of the lowest caps in the league. Their own limitation is greed:

Second, I'd like to know where the money is coming from. Is it OYSA money that should be going toward another USYS program like ODP?
