Ummmm no they didn't apply for surf. A handful of teams they beat or tied did apply for Surf and were accepted however. But TS posters have always let facts get in the way of a good bashing.

FWRL is a "league" OPEN to members from teams associated with OYSA clubs. The Thorns would have multiple clubs with which to base the teams. Yes they would have to win State to get to regionals however that would be a done deal as they would have decimated any remaining Alliance team so they would be guaranteed a birth. Additionally, as a State cup winner they would have a preferred position for entry to Surf. The other tourney's are open to teams with a record of accomplishment and $'s.

The fact that the CHOICE of which direction to go has not been made tells ME that they are NOT going to do it this year and that they are enjoying creating uncertainty to sabotage the ECNL tryouts.

FWRL is open



































































FWRL is "open" to any team/club that earned their spot through a proven track record. Application is made through the state association and they make a recommendation to FWRL. Of course, it must be a USYSA affiliated team. Teams are sometimes invited by FWRL to apply. It is not a "we have the money and want to play" league.

Not if it satisfies a $10,000 need and you have the money. A Timbers sponsored alternative to the ECNL that costs $500 is unlikely. The fact the Timbers charge anything for the DA and go after families for travel costs if a player drops tells says a lot.

Not only doe the Academy NOT exist but they are saying that it's not going to be a $600 phone they are saying they can do everything the iphone does for $100.

If you wanted to make an ACCURATE analogy you would be talking about ANOTHER company saying that they are going to bring out a $100 phone that can do everything the iphone does. The MARKET and PUBLIC OPINION would savage them too for not delivering and stringing us out.

Yes we all understand how to make choice among a known universe but THAT is not the issue. The point is not my opinion or the opinion of many others posted here or voiced on the sidelines these past few months. The point is that if the Timbers were actually operating with INTEGRITY and backing up the their claims of supporting youth soccer they would announce their decision one way or another.

By not formulating a program and announcing it for the parents and players to evaluate is NOT supporting youth soccer. Further by not declaring one way or another they are stringing parents and players along who have "bought" the concept of a $500 Academy compared to a $6 - 8,500 ECNL team.

So we get that you think it's fine and dandy for the for profit organization to make any choice that they see fit but there are costs to that decision both to the organization and the potential consumers and when the costs to the players are known as opportunity costs.

The costs to the organization are Brand ID costs and over time erode even favorable reputations like the Timbers have today.

Lastly your opinion in TS is uniquely ONE compared to the four or five others who patiently try to reason with you.

Im not going to spend all day looking, but can anyone tell me where I can find a written statement directly from the Timbers/Thorns where they said the costs will be $500 ? I know that the boys DA is that, but where did someone read it about the potential Thorns Academy ?
