    It's official!

No Oregon Team will get ECNL.

The closest to get ECNL is Seattle United.

    maybe next year.

Your vigorous protests make me wonder if this is part of THUSC's damage control since they did not receive ECNL. Tom built himself up onto such a mountain with all the claims of guaranteeing ECNL this year...it is a long fall back to us mere mortals...he probably wants the distraction so nobody sees him slinking back down.
It has been said time and again that if your child plays on a successful team that travels, you spend that much anyway.

And we have 4 DOC's a GM and broke ground with our new turf fields yesterday. What do you get for $1,300-$1600?
You're not paying $1091 anymore. And you will have a huge debt load for those fields. Not to mention that you're not getting top of the line coaching...

We don't have to live in Vancouver.

It has been said over and over...it just simply isn't true. Your logic is Tom logic, because he knows if he says that then anyone who claims to pay less will get a snide comment about not being in a successful team...

The money that THUSC requires their parents to pay, or shames them into paying, is criminal. Go ahead believe that playing all your summer tournament in SoCal makes you that much better...Tom wants you to believe, it pays for his car...teach your kids to pay for their recognition with money not sweat and tears.

If you want to dump 8-10,000 a year into ECNL with your most likely payback being a2-3,000 a year athletic scholarship, go right ahead...I will use my money differently.

Just jumping in here, I am a THUSC parent and my fees are comparable to most portland clubs. Really don't know what your talking about.

Problem solved. You spend your money how you want. There are a lot of people in Oregon looking forward to the ECNL coming to town. You are free to skip this and stay and play in local leagues. No one will look down on you for doing so.

Which is more than thusc has over the last 5 years with the exception of this year and the Neon team from about 5 years ago. Isn't this the first year since Neon that thusc has placed any girl in college? Did thusc even had a u18 girls team between Neon and Sodium?

Over the last three seasons WST has placed over 20 girls onto college teams which seems to be more than "1 or 2".

I'm not a THUSC apologist but just because they didn't have U18 teams for a couple years doesn't mean they didn't place girls in college. Most girls sign now in thier soph or junior years so they lose some interest in comp soccer by their senior years.

Are you saying that these player's preparation to accept a collegiate athletic scholarship is to then forego their final club competitive year and do what...only play high school soccer?

I would be interested in hearing how their soon to be college coaches view this approach. Having played 4 years of D1 soccer myself I find it hard to believe that almost any player would ever be prepared for playing against competition that is 2-5 years older than them by choosing to take an entire year off just before college.

Yes, it happens. You would know this if you knew what you're talking about.

That's fine, I'll bite on you logic. Then neither can THUSC take credit for Ireland (hint, not even an element. Wasn't a THUSC original team). They also can't take credit for the 1-2 years a girl plays for their club after they've been developed at another club.

You have to step back and ask WHY?! Why has there not been a strong u18 team, let alone just having a team, if this club is doing so much right? If this club provided so many opportunities and is such a quality, why would so many girls leave by this time of their career? Wouldn't they be grateful and wouldn't their experience have been positive? FC and Crossfire OR retain players, heck even WST puts together a team (can be pretty iffy at times).

By your logic, none of the other clubs should have teams either. Unfortuntaley, THUSC girls typically funnel into these other club (primarily FC and Crossfire OR) by the u17/18 year. THUSC has 2 good coaches and it pays to be on their team, if you're not on their team, there's no reason to be in the club, end of story. If you're on their team, you'll be fine no matter what age.

Lots of things happen. That still doesn't mean they are wise choices. Foregoing your final year prior to college is simply foolish.
