The 2 previous failed women's professional soccer leagues lasted only 3 seasons each.
ECNL might want to see a year 4 first.

For the first inaugural season last year, league average attendance was just over 4.000 per game.
Without including the Thorns, the season average attendance for the other 7 teams was under 3,000.

Does that and sponsorships pay all the bills?

This isn't people just making things up. After the meetings were done of course they had not announced anything but our DOC (non TA club) came back and said he had heard the thorns will get at least one of the teams.

That's pretty cool. There will be a transition period to be sure, but a good oppurtunity for girls soccer in Oregon.

FCP and THUSC are the only clubs that can do ECNL outside of a Thorns academy.
Maybe together they can do a team together.

What a lot of people don't realize is the breakeven point for the teams is just under 2000 people in attendance. This is heavily backed by Nike and is unlikely to fail. I'm not a supporter of the Thorns getting ECNL but this league will be around as long as Nike continues to back it.

First off, it's not "a" team it's "teams" and your glorious Thorns academy does not exist. You should get yourself into the real world. Get out of your Oregon bubble. Think about things realistically.

Statement from NWSL executive director Cheryl Bailey:

“Our goal is to grow the league as we move forward and attendance will be one area of significant concern to us. The league is paying close attention to the attendance numbers, but we don’t want to overreact after a small sample of games in the early part. In these early stages we are being patient, along with the clubs.

“As we move along, we’ll continue to have conversations about ways to grow attendance. And at the end of the season we’ll be able to do a much more in-depth evaluation of multiple aspects of the league, including the turnout at stadiums.”
