Read the story. One of the two GU 15 teams who has already qualified for the national finals was last year's champion at U-14. Hint: they are from Washington.

That "strongest" USYSA team failed to get out of group a week or two later at Surf, losing its only encounter with an ECNL team. Further, ECNL teams not only won every single ECNL age group at Surf, both finalists at every ECNL age group were ECNL teams.

Winning the USYSA national championship is the equivalent of winning the NIT tournament in college basketball. Best of the Rest.
So you base you whole conclusion on one team? You must be a newbie if you really think you can transfer results from one event to another with any sort of predictability. The USYNL is comprised of teams that have won or featured prominently in the USYS National tournament in previous years. These teams then play league play against each other with the first and second place teams given a wildcard into the National tournament.

The other way to get there is play up through regionals to nationals, 4 national league entrants, and 4 from the regional tournaments (1 from each region) face off for the national championship.

For those established teams they have the opportunity of playing through the national league, for those coming up they can still get there through a regional process.

This makes the USYS Tournament a more credible national champion. Sure you can be excited about being DA champions, or ECNL champions, but you are still just winning in a limited subset of teams.

There is a reason why there are far more college recruiters at ECNL events than USYS events.

What is the source of this information? We have heard untrue reports on this board previously.

None of the home grown restrictions that comes with the MLS DA programs.
Where do you get your information? I just looked up 2013 DA results and Timbers DA was 1 spot below Crossfire DA at U16 and 1 slot above Crossfire DA at U18. And that's after only a couple years of having a program.

And when you look at top DA's last year as far as record, 6 of the top 10 at each age group are MLS DA.

So what is the point YOUR CHILD is playing for?

                    A) Are they playing because YOU think this will give them an edge into college,
                    B) Are they playing because YOU have pushed them that they are really special and if mom spends enough money we can get you on a team where everyone will see how special you are,
                    C) or are they playing because they love the game?

Any answer other than C is sad…

As far as college recruiters, Try going to the U17B National final, and count the number of college recruiters...

"U17B National final" - Note that ECNL is only for girls.

For clarification the comparison was between the USYS u17B national final, and any ECNL game you might choose. Hopefully that helps unwad your pants a little bit.

Still, you missed the point. The number of college recruiters is exemplary of where the top players are. Play your a...b...c.... game all you want. That is irrelevant. The discussion is about where the top talent is and how to quantify it. Where recruiters to is an excellent way to measure.

u17B.... the B stands for Boys. It is ridiculous to compare boys and girls. Additionally, top boy players are in DA programs so even the USYS u17B national final is second tier.

I'm sorry but this whole labeling of tiers is stupid. You say this is tier 2, but recently Oregon has only had a handful of teams that can compete at this level so does that make us a tier 2 or 3 state?

What is the point of labeling tier 1,2,3 if you can't and don't compete at those levels. It is like diminishing the MLS cup, because the Barclays cup is better. To talk about this league that doesn't have a presence in Oregon as being so much better than all the options out there is delusional

Dead on...all this talk about ECNL being better when we haven't been invited to participate is just a waste of time.

Get invited first. Then you can actually see how prices etc... play out. It looks pretty silly to say "in Washington they do..." Or "these other ECNL teams are great, so just by association we are as well".
