NEWSBREAK - THEY DON'T - THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO OR WHERE YOU ARE ON THE MAP AND NOR DO THEY CARE. So why do you think your mighty Timbers/Thorns are the end all ?? they are far from it. They will not nor have they even tried to get ECNL membership. Because unlike most Oregon Country folk, they understand the world does not revolve around them.
Wow you're almost as dense as the folks you're chastising .....Maybe think broader then Oregon yourself! MLS is NATIONAL / NWSL is NATIONAL. Like it or not MLS is a very well thought of and successful professional sports organization. ECNL would be wise to partner with them. I'm not saying it's gonna happen but if MLS/NWSL are leading the discussions with the ECNL then there is validity to the point that the "Timbers/Thorns" could get the sole ECNL franchise.

They can operate it under an ECNL type structure and everyone can have an MLS patch. All of the kids will be PREMIERE almost over night. This makes total sense, because well I'm an Oregonian.
This is exciting news! I can't wait! Thank you GW!!!

MLS/NWSL could care less. You are the only one who thinks they are running around thinking about their youth programs day in and day out, because my god the MLS depends on those youth programs. Give me a break.

Your welcome. Soon youth soccer nationwide will be under one flag, one structure, one gigantic MLS/TA super duper league. Because we are the TIMBERS, oh and don't forget the Thorns.

Makes sense for the MLS/NWSL to tap into an existing successful league platform. Also makes sense for the ECNL to consider. Aligns ECNL with professional soccer and removes potential competitor.
And your accusing other people of assuming.... ha ha ha ha.

Lest you forget it's part of the plan for total soccer domination in the USA by MLS .... Own everything, kids to pros, and you will profit handsomely! Even you know that Mr. Einstein

I know MLS/NWSL is national. Do you think they are sitting back and concerning themselves with TA, or the Thorns. Give me a break.

NWSL worrying about youth development is like worrying about how you will make the birdie putt before you tee off. They should be worrying about SURVIVAL. One franchise does not a league make.

Not a very good analogy. If you're a pro golfer and all you concentrate on is your tee shot you won't be a pro very long. Drive for show putt for dough. But you knew that.
Hmm maybe you do need to concern yourself with the whole game? But you knew that.

Sure everyone likes to win but it doesn't matter if you're player is on the best team or not. (other then for bragging rights) You're player is participating in The ECNL >>> She'll play some of the best teams in the country >>> She will be seen by college coaches who are looking for players and have chosen the ECNL as their #1 recruiting platform.
Being seen by a college coach is one thing. Impressing him enough to offer a scholarship is another thing. Even a very good player would have a very hard time displaying her quality on a team that is getting crushed and can't maintain possession. And that's what would happen to Oregon teams if they were to get two clubs in ECNL.

I am reasonably certain that if Oregon got one ECNL club, it could field competitive teams at most age groups. I'm also reasonably certain that if Oregon got two clubs, either neither of them would be competitive, or one would, and the other would be quite bad by ECNL standards.

I agree with this 100%. Two teams is setting up our state to fail.

Likely the latter. The better players will gravitate to the more successful ECNL club.

I agree, however, you have to start somewhere. Exposure to that talent is where it starts. ECNL will give Oregon exposure. How many Clubs start out winning? after awhile they start to win because they have exposure to that level of competition.

If the right clubs combine they have a very good chance of being competitive right away.

I feel the same. Initially players would go to the club they like the best, but eventually the better players would be at which ever club has the most success at their age.
