I think some of the posters are pointing out that just because a kid doesn't play club ball possession style from a very early age does NOT mean that they will not be successful at soccer. I like possession ball as much as the next person but I don't see any club in our metroplex that impresses me as having a clear advantage in this area. In all honesty, I am not all that impressed with any of them.

Look at some of the most successful college players. Some of them have been playing at elite clubs forever and learning disciplined skills from the ground up. Others started late and were just plain awesome athletes.

Making an absolute statement either way is not accurate.
So you condemn a blanket statement and for support you trot out a blanket statement....priceless.

Please supply the PROOF of your claim. In my experience you are talking about an extreme minority of players at the top D1, D2 and D3 programs across the country. Does every team have one of the players you ate talking about? No doubt because play to play soccer is the bane of development soccer so there are hundreds of talented kids who are off the club system radar but their numbers are not even close to meeting the term "many".

Alex Morgan is not a great soccer player. She is simply fast. Nothing more.

Historically you are correct. FCP pays homage to the concept and there are individual coaches in various clubs that are dedicated to the concept. BSC under Scott Thompson is trying to make that a club philosophy so it might be a few years before you can see the results particularly at the older age groups.

Since U12 (now U16) has won every state cup and like THUSC's ONYX, generally take care of all comers here in Oregon. They havent always had the best success out of state, but do better then all others at that age group.
You are right - I know next to nothing about the individual girl classic teams in this state other than what I read. I am not sure I have ever watched a full girls' classic game in this state, so can't comment on their style of play.

My point is that the Westside boys' teams I have seen at the older level could play ball in my experience (there were a couple of future MLS players in those groups) and that getting your teeth kicked in every week isn't the greatest for development, so just because the TA teams aren't in your league doesn't mean it is the end of the world for teams on the boys' side.

                  Cheers.

this comment either was made by a young player or an absolutely incompetent parent that knows nothing of soccer....

every game that Alex Morgan plays in is against a team that has 5-6 players with her athletic abilities....
do you think when she plays for the WNT that there is no one with her speed?
                    Really?

at that level there are lots of Alex Morgans.....having that athletic ability only gets you in the door.....having the capacity to process the game and actually play the game is what keeps you in the room

Right. But more importantly, playing weak teams REALLY isnt good for development either. Do you hear of great coaches using friendlies or scrimmages with "bad" teams to prep winning ones? Fool.

Sounds like some people are now just a shill for weak competition in the OPL. No one believes this sycophantic tripe, do they? I hate a person who clearly cant analyse something for what it is - without self serving bias. When the top winning teams, now I am talking boys in the younger U ages, leave, competition will suffer, GREATLY.

Dont believe me? Just go out to the OPL site and review the top teams in each of the boys fall league play for this year. Many are gone, M A N Y. So, if you are happy with LESS competition, and feel, not getting beat is the greatest benefit and path to DEVELOPMENT, then, by all means, keep them in the OPL. But if you have a talented player, are sick of middle of the road results, and now face a league of far less competitive play, then now is the time to seek green pitches. My opinion. And no,I dont work for OYSA, the Timbers, or any TA club or any club for that matter. Think people. Think hard.

So bitter and insecure. Why do you care? I OYSA is sooooo much more elite then why do you care?

As I said, STAY WHERE YOU ARE. Your choice. But don't try and sell us a boat load of garbage about how awesome it is that the OPL refuses to merge. It is not awesome. Nor smart. Nor helpful to Oregon soccer. THAT is why I care.

Bitter. Insecure. And playing in a far more competitive league with the OYSA. I can live with that.

You can put up all of the one time snapshots from fall season all you want. It means squat. The only way you'll know is OPL teams playing OYSA teams in tournaments. Until then your just all talk.

                                Results = score board

That comment was priceless. So RESULTS mean nuuuthing and your opinion of the future means more?

Yes we will know the COST of either choice this Summer but right now the ONLY thing we KNOW is where the best have chosen to play and that is not a debate.
