Medford is the only trip that is really a pain in the butt. Are you complaining about a trip to Salem or Eugene or Woodburn? Really? Odds are that you won't even have a Medford team in your age/division. If you do, then it's a 50% chance that you will make a trip to Medford. Big deal.

Isn't this why the league split in the first place?

It's one of the reasons that was used to justify the initial split off of the OPL but it wasn't the real reason for the split.

the teams that listed in the press release are not certain to play OYSA. Those clubs just game permission for OYSA/Timbers to use their names in the release.

The reality is discussions are still going on. OYSA/Timbers have not finalized league plans and the final decision on where teams will play next season has not been made for many clubs.

I also know some clubs won't be switching in the spring but may in the fall. primarily due to the logistics and cost of re-carding all players for spring.

            good times

I have 2 kids in 2 different leagues in OPL right now (with all those teams already) and we have 1 corvallis team and thats it. yes I know the odds of having more of those teams goes up, but from past experience (have an oldest that played when OYSA was the only club) we only had on average 1-2 teams from EMFC, Bend, Rogue valley, ect in our league per year. So yes 1-2 long travel games a year. Really not that big of a deal. In many cases we made a team trip out of it and the girls had a blast.

Travel was a very minor part of the reason why the league split. It had much more to do with other issues like guest playing, and the rights of the clubs to have a say in league matters than it had to do with travel.

Why can't both leagues exist?? Run it like an AFC/NFC.

Choosing a league to participate in

That's why we live in America, freedom to choose.

And how was it fixed in OPL?

Originally it was said there would be no travel outside the portland metro area. Then they started giving vancouver home games. then they started giving corvallis home games and salem. They keep reach out further and further. And now if your in the top division at the older ages (I think u13 and above) you may have to travel to Bend or wherever else there are teams.

OPL realized they needed to include travel as well and they keep doing more and more. So don't think it will be much of a difference from what we have already been seeing.

Here are the travel rules currently for OPL:

                          For the NPL league:
•U13/14 Home and away; will travel
•U11/U12 Home and away; will not travel outside of Portland Metro area (defined: as far East as Hood River, as far North as Battleground, as far West as Hillsboro, as far South as Salem).

                          For all other divisions:
•U11-U14 Home and Away; will not travel
•Two home weekends granted to Eugene/Corvallis teams
•Some exceptions made for divisions with teams from Central/So. Oregon

So in the top division U13 and above you have to travel even to Bend if they are in your division. At U11/12 you have to travel all the way down to salem which means the only clubs that you wouldn't have to travel to would be RV, Bend, EMFC, any others? Wow three clubs.

For all other divisions it says won't travel (which is defensed as the same "portland metro area" meaning down to salem. However, you like how they put the disclosure in there that if you have Central/So. Oregon then you might have to travel.

Lets face it teams are already traveling even with the OPL, so don't use that as an excuse.

Minimal travel in OPL compared to OYSA/TIMBERS. This will be a difference maker.

                              OPL vs OYSA

Both are going to have poor in state leagues. The teams that really matter in winter are

                              WST
                              EST
                              CFC

                              Crossfire
                              THUSC (girls only)
                              FC Portland

Everyone else for winter is just a player fee.

The difference will be who can provide the best out of state league. OYSA will have the regional league and US Club will have their NorCal Seattle league.

Good Luck. Oh, for the record the OPL was created with the specific desire to exclude Medford, Bend, Eugene, Corvallis and now many are TA clubs. Make whatever conclusions you may, but always watch your back.
