    So what?

You are correct WSM did not produce more college level players community college, NAIA, Division III and Division II players than all other clubs in oregon. Sorry.
So is the point you are running your child through a meat grinder so they can be turned into some product and sold to a D1 school. Everyone should line up like sheep to have the same done to them, and if they don't they don't match up?

Sorry, but that is a pretty myopic view, and to have a kid that pigeonholed by 16 or 18, is actually pretty sad for them. The reason it has gotten this way is we as parents have allowed the "academies" and the "alliances" and the "odp/whatevers" to sell us this myth that Tommy or Julie will only measure up if they are in this super elite program.

If your KID wants to commit to the trainings and travel and everything else, support them and let them go for it, but if they are doing it because you are living your dream through them, be very careful.

Before all the mud flies, and I am told how my kids "didn't make it", "blah, blah, blah". let me explain that my kids both played at the very top level available in Oregon, THEY chose not to go to the academy level because they were focused on school, and having a life with friends etc...They still play, and could play on any of these super-teams.

Bottom line is make sure your kid is the one driving the decisions.

              Nope. He's not right.

Let's also point out that FC Portland had the most kids in the DA program last year.

              WST recruits. They don't develop.

This discussion (for me) at least centers around

the reality at least for the last 5 to 10 years-one boys usys/usclub program based in beaverton oregon (wsmetros) has had a tremendous lead over all other clubs in oregon on developing/producing/spitting out top collegiate talent and pro players (I could give a sh*t if they 'developed" them in others pea brain opinion, the fact is it's irrelevant for the discussion, it's another discussion altogether). with that said, and facts being facts. My bigger question is can the timbers d.a. program eventually match at least the standard of players that wsm produced? wsm of ole' seems to have the upper hand on coaching vs. the d.a. of current (which isn't saying much) and the ability to churn out eventual pros. maybe on average one ever 2 to 3 years. so where am i going with this? well if the d.a. can't even replicate what paying customers and honest hardworking part-time local coaches could produce--the bigger question down the road is, does the portland area really have a case to field a d.a. program.
or is it just a sad branding of local youth with a snowballs chance in hell of ever being a pro?

                      jus aking.

                        .
WSmetros had over 20 players move on to the Development Academy Timbers last year.

FC PDX had a handful of boys in the D.A ..if 20 is less than a handful, FCPDX had the most kids in the DA program. You read like the FC PDX club accountant.

Of these 20, how many were from the WS Galacticos team? It is my understanding they comprised most of the U16 team. It is a slightly different perspective to consider it as largely one team, perhaps they are not as dominant as the poster seems to imply.

I totally agree with this. I did not make it to college basketball by going through an academy or program or etc... but by hard work where I was at. I really don't understand why soccer tries to structure funnels and alliances and all. I'll let my dk participate in it all however they want, but I am not going to force them into the soccer structure in hoped that they'll "make it".
