Not to mention THUSC getting hammered for a -11 GD in 3 games at US Club Nationals...

I'm sure Eugene, Bend, Medford still have their best players, although I think Eugene lost 1 to Thorns Academy. Even CFC lost players to ECNL.
This is absolutely true for the '01s. At least 75% of talent off to ecnl or thorns. Same will happen to '02s. Yes, BSC '02s won't be as strong after they lose top players to ecnl/thorns next year but so will all the other Pdx area teams. So what? Outlying teams like Eugene & Cfc will stay/become strongest in OYSA as they will likely lose none or just one or two. Simply the lay of the land now. I realize parents of players who can't make the cut for ecnl/thorns or can't afford them will try to bash the new elite programs but fact is, many top players are signing up. Relax. Everyone will be fine. Do what is best for your own daughter.

Why would any of these players leave for ECNL when they have the best coach and training without the ECNL price.

Because they don't have that. And they don't get the level of competition needed to develop into elite players. Sorry but OYSA is not elite.

Because as they get older they will want to travel and play against the best teams. Beating local teams week in and week out gets boring.... ( see Eastside Timbers 00 ) three time state champs and most of the team quit competitive club soccer. Kids need to be challenged by a league that is difficult. Top players enjoy that competition and will gravitate towards each other and ECNL.

                Gold

That's scaring the folks whose kids can't make or can't afford an ecnl/thorns academy team.

Best post in ages on this thread. Sometimes truth hurts, but it doesn't have to. Think of it as more playing opportunities for your daughter. If your dd wants to play at the next level, loves competition, you can afford it and it doesn't eat up too much time (travel / practice) then jump in. If your answer is no to some of those, then she can play in what's left, maybe she will step up and be a leader, maybe it will give her more minutes in games and build her confidence. Because when it comes down to it, 90% of premier level players will not play college, a good number of 'competitive' club players won't even make their H.S. varsity team. Now if your dd is actually good enough to play ECNL but you can't swing it, look to the close club team with good coaching and other good players. Better yet see if they travel and challenge themselves. There will still be opportunites for players, but don't be fooled the level of play in OYSA / OPL / or a joint league is going to be diminished greatly. Eugene will be the club to beat due to population base and lack of interest of driving for ECNL.

and the coaching isn't great. i think in a year there will only be one team playing in the ECLeague in portland and the Thorns Academy will be a strong player.

It's not that expensive. Spread it out over a year and it's less than $1,000 per month. You can't count your own travel costs. You really shouldn't even travel. Just enjoy the local games.

If the decline in talent level from year 1 to year 2 is any indication, there will be no "year 3" for the Thorns Academy.

So much better to spend lots of $$$ to get your ass kicked somewhere else. Sadly those teams find it boring and expensive to play US but that is their problem.

                                That's pretty reasonable really.
