The MLS is financially very strong. The Timbers are incredibly profitable.

MLS teams LOST over $100M last year. And players will be getting higher salaries in the upcoming collective agreement. There is NO money left over for things like the Thorns Academy.

Losing 100 million a year is not what I would call financially very strong. The Timbers can be as profitable as they want, if the rest are not then it doesn't matter. What are the Timbers going to do, play against themselves??

That would be nice if the MLS = The Timbers..... but any half wit knows that it doesn't.

But Timbers aren't exactly rolling in dough, either. And they have to do spend some big money on that stadium soon. It's archaic compared to all of the new stuff around the league. Not to mention they'll be spending a lot more on salaries soon. It's a good thing the Thorns players are mostly paid for by US Soccer...

Both the Timbers and the MLS are very strong financially. The $100 million loss is most likely smoke and mirrors for labor negotiations and tax shelters.

The Timbers Academy is their tax shelter.

                  ECNL struggle?

The ECNL teams are doing just fine - both clubs. The girls are working hard and are pretty competitive with the other teams so far, and isn't that the point? Not to win Eveything, but to be part of a more competitive league. Kids lose their competitive edge when they play slower teams week in, week out. And if they want to play college soccer, they will already be prepared for the faster paced games.

But as you know, that is still 2 years away for us all. Good luck to all the hopefuls out there - including my own.

This is the third time that ecnl/academy talk has hijacked this thread. Go use any of the four threads dedicated to your topic .

Pretty good evidence that girls soccer is in rapid decline within the TA - not one team in NWCL U15-U18

                            Um, kettle...

We're all on here for a little comic relief from time to time. It called rubber-necking. We're just a bunch of nerds with a few minutes on our hands. It's OK. Some people watch Real Housewives, and some get on Talking Soccer.

If we're going to take the time to go to this website, we might as well check out the other threads.

Rumor has it that a couple WashT G02 girls were seen at an FCP practice last week. Just testing the waters, I'm sure. Hmmm.
