My son plays for a non TA, non OPL club and tried out for a Portland RTC, despite being a late Nov birthday and playing against older kids, he made the team. While he isn't a super star, he is a very solid player, so I felt he got a fair look. And NO, they just didn't take everyone, there were about 40 kids per session (so 45 plus maybe tried out if some could only make 1 or 2 sessions?) and they took 27-28 kids. Level of play was high and it was very competitive, so for $40, he got 5-6 hours of good scrimmaging on nice fields, worth it to me even if it ended there. There was really no coaching, just observing, so the jury is still out there, but I agree with the previous poster, that if he gets $200 worth of cool Timbers gear plus 18-20 practices and some competitive games, the $400 fee is worth it to me. New friends, different coaching, possibility of moving on will all be gravy.
This is my 1st experience with rtc, so I'm going in with an open mind and trying to ignore the haters and jaded parents. Seems to me that it's a higher level than sending your kid to UP, Thorns/Timbers, whatever camp, where you don't know the level of the other kids and coaching. Those camps offer way less bang for your buck but I don't see them getting bashed here.

Rtc
I was surprised how little they focused on technical skills at the try-outs. Last year, there was a bigger focus on technical skills, and they did more 1v1, 2v2, 3v1, etc... But I shouldn't be surprised considering Jaime is coaching our age group. I don't want to spend money for my daughter to learn bootball. We can go back to Westside Warriors or Oak Hills Soccer club, or Somerset West for that.
I think we will try out one training before we pay our money. I keep hoping another coach will show up to assist - one my daughter might like.

Consider yourself lucky with Jaime. Our RTC couch basically brought her team with her last year. Can you say favoritism?

Why is Bend still in the top division? They didn't win a single game all season this last spring. And a lot of games were big losses 8-0, 13-0, 7-0 5-1, 5-0 a 0-0 tie and a 1-1 tie and a no play. They scored a total of 2 goals all season.
And what happened to Westside Copa, and Samba? Did Samba get dropped down a division? Where did Copa go?

In a non-split league, the bottom teams such as Bend get moved down. In a split league, Bend is top 8, even if still near the bottom. Most girls age groups only have a couple to a handful of true "premier" level teams. Some age groups only have two top teams so oysa's Gu12 is actually lucky.

Is Bend scheduled to play CopaTS, CFC & Eastside twice or did they cut Bend slack & take top teams off their play twice list? Maybe Bend would rather be challenged for development since they'd likely run away w/the next division down.

Then Bend DoC should've asked to be in next Div down. Maybe Timbers want Alliance teams to all have a team n Premier at each age. That would explain Rogue Valley Timbers suddenly showing up in Premier divisions.
