It's the last chance for a coach to add new players before setting the roster for state tournaments. Doesn't mean coach will tank the whole spring season, but team may not be as strong for 2-3 games.

Yes, we've had top players tired or miss games due to bball, injured due to bball, coach letting new players play to see if they could help come State Cup, playing bench players more to strengthen them for State Cup, & coach also trying kids in different positions to see if they can find a stronger set-up for State Cup. The coach is willing to lose in spring league in hopes of having better chance at State Cup.

In California, even if a team was in the cellar in the fall, if they were dominating the next spring they would be given the earned credit deserved. Am I missing the point of some posters that make it seem like wins count any less in the spring than in the fall?
It is mainly because everyone here is not as competitive as people from California probably.

Man, California is so much more advanced, probably because the players, coaches and parents there are always trying to win, like you said. Maybe getting the earned credit that they deserve is part of the incentive to try harder to win?

Is that something that you think could be implemented here in Oregon, getting more earned credit for your wins? And is that like a voucher system, where you can build up enough earned winning credits to turn it into the league and redeem it for a shiny trophy, or monogrammed bags or something?

Furthermore, our coach uses the Spring to move kids into different positions. Yes, they try to win, but the team isn't at full strength and the coach isn't trying to utilize strategy necessary to beat a team but to focus on other things. The spring season is shorter than fall and in the OPL they don't even keep standings....Winning isn't everything....it's about development, especially at the younger ages....let the kids relax, enjoy the game, and try new things...that's what spring soccer is about.
While I like your notion of moving players up and down between teams and across positions you can't expect us to believe you're moving players from the "C" team to the "A" team?!! This is laughable in OR, none of the teams are that deep such that their C players are relevant on the A squads! In fact there are more likely less than a handful on the B team that could be taken seriously on the A team. I will be very interested to see how many girls the top clubs choose to carry on their rosters after tryouts vs. utilizing guest players!

Our B and C teams are pretty much equal. We have a top team and two feeder teams...I guess my bad for calling them B and C when I should of said our A team brings players up from the two feeder teams during the spring.

I guess the difference is that in California people understand what a "figure of speech" is, like "earned credit." Apparently you can only think of it in similar terms to how you cash in your food stamps each week.

Winning is winning and losing justified as "developmental" is an excuse, no matter what state you play in.

What's up with the mighty WashT Reds losing to NW Nationals (6th place in RCL) in state cup last weekend? I thought the Reds were "all that"????

Yeah dangit... whats up with the reds losing to last years semi finalist in state. And to a team that went 5-1 in northwest champions league (only lost to washington Timbers 2-1). how dare they lose to a team like that.

Okay for those of you that don't know, In RCL 1 the 7th and 8th place teams would compete for the 1st and 2nd best teams in oregon. Sorry to break it all to you, but washington is that much deeper than oregon. Sorry to burst your bubble.

They were 4-2 in NWCL. And they didn't beat any teams of consequence, at least according to this forum that makes it clear that all of the best teams in the world play in the Timbers league. Isn't that why the Reds are in OYSA and not in RCL? But let's not let the facts get in the way, shall we?

Washington timbers have chosen to play in the Oregon league to limit travel.
7 trips to Seattle is far worse than two away trips.
Just trying to save the legs....and besides, most of our teams get to do champions league every year so we get to play the teams up north

You sure? Everyone is being told it's because the Timbers league is the best league ever. Or maybe it's just the best the Timbers can do...

But I thought OYSA parents loved that kind of travel, you know carpool in a van and have family fun time.

I'll be honest it was easier ten years ago when gas was half the price.

Agreed, hell the cost of traveling to practice is enough. These gas prices are out of control.
