Am I the only one that thinks it sounds like there is 1 person who is not only constantly blowing up FCP but also now asking and answering their own questions? Kind of making them look sad right now. If they weren't worried about this age group they wouldn't be going over the top to try and recruit right now.
Yes. It happens s the time on this anonymous chat room.
This sounds fair and objective. I've found too often that many club teams have a "set" roster and that this set roster is heavily influenced by politics (ie...parent is executive/director at Nike, parent is a huge patron of the club, etc). Is Mike de Pinna, coach for this age group, fair and objective? Does he give every individual player an opportunity to develop and earn their spot based on merit? Or is his coaching wrought with favoritism and political leanings?
I put this on another thread, but it fits some of the conversations on this one as well:
All this FCP talk. If you have been around long enough you will think back and realize that this time every single year you see the same thing being pushed very heavy. throughout the year you don't hear much about this, but when its almost time for tryouts all of a sudden you start seeing all these posts about how "great" the pool system is and how great they are. Don't get sucked into it. The pool system has positives and negatives.
This isn't all of them, but just a few (I would encourage you do your own research as well)
Positives: competition for A team spots. Quality training for all the kids. Should create a good relationship between A and B teams. Lots of different experiences for the kids.
Negatives: Your child may end up playing some of their games way below their level if they are right on that bubble. They take a Big pool which also means less playing time in games, 18 players at a game for 11/12 year olds is just horrible. Top kids may be slowed down a little bit training with the bottom kids.
Like I said there are more positives and negatives than just that, but make sure you realize every team you join will have positives and negatives. Try to find one that best fits you. Personally I would like this system if it wasn't for the huge rosters. Almost everytime I have seen an FCP team at u11/u12 it seems like they have 6-7 kids on the bench, and I would rather my child playing on the field then sitting half the time. If they managed to do this with a group of around 28-30 kids then I would probably like it for my child.
Maybe other teams had players catch up to early developed and speedy Eugene. Also, like Bend & Medford, Eugene is small city so probably not as much depth as Pdx area clubs. Looks like they tied for 4th place in the 2nd division (Premier) in OPL fall league and are now losing to the same teams by the same margins (except CFC who has really improved) that they lost to in Fall Premier (like BSC Blk) and also, unsurprisingly, losing to Fall NPL teams (like CopaTS who beat just about everyone in NPL). Doesn't seem like they have ever been that strong. If they were strong at U9/U10, most likely early-developed kids..
If CFC meant FCP 02 the new Onyx then you would be correct. But it doesnt. There can be only one new Onyx and that team is FCP 02-- best 10 year old girls team in the State!
Looking at FC Portland financial statements, they are really tough finanancial condition as a club. A grand in the bank and hundreds of thousands in current liabilities at June 30 2013.
