The reason there are so many clubs is that every parent wants their kid to play on an "A" team. If you have enough clubs, every team is an "A" team...

looks like a tight race for first and second between three teams in the premier division.

Its actually not that close, ***C last score isn't updated but they won 5-0. ***C is already locked to either take 1st or 2nd and with how TS has been playing they will finish 1st or 2nd. I did run into the coach for ***C the other day though, and he mentioned that they may use their last few games to try some new stuff. He mentioned that since they play both Eastside and the two westside tems it gives him a chance to try some new things with the girls against some good teams.

Moving players around does not equal player development there's a lot more then just moving kids to new positions involved with developing a player and team.

So,observation from this game teams about equal today. Eastside appeared to complete more short passes and moved ball around field more from defense up with short passing utilizing ALL DIRECTIONS andl the field and this was really a bright part in their game over ***C. ***C had more speed down sideline with one or two passes which is a good point for them as this has been a key to their wins this season.

Which team appears to have developed more? Well, since ***C was dominating all the teams summer (over 5 months now since summer) and Eastside was not and now Eastside is playing ***C pretty much equal I would have to say Eastside may have an edge in overall player development at this point 5 months into season. Will Eastside pass ***C? Time will tell. Only a few months ago ***C was crushing everyone. Only 2 things could have happened. Either Eastside got better or ***C got worse.

Eastside had more depth on the bench of 16 while ***C had 14. I believe this will be a factor as teams get older.

I think the ***C parents would have to agree that it was a pretty equal game. I noted ***C was doing a different formation from previous games played but, Eastside was trying new things too so, appears both teams working on new things.

Agreed. I saw a lot of improvement in ***C's ball movement and I look forward to a hopefully great friendly rivalry. Both teams had some great moments. Eastside has consistently struggled to capitalize on their opportunities and ***C has done a good job of making the most of theirs. Different styles, different coaches, different players=different progression of development. Good luck to all.

Some thoughts going into the last weekend of league play

For this age group it really is a 2 horse race this year.

Regardless what people have said you have to give ***C their credit. They have scored 37 goals so far (closest team scored 19). And they have a GD of 29 which is double 2nd places GD.

The 4 NWCL teams are in good shape to finish in the top 4 and claim NWCL spots next year. I guess the right 4 teams did well in the Beaverton cup.

Thusc has a chance to finish top 4, but honestly I am a bit disappointed with how they have played so far. I expected them to be that 3rd team who will push the top 2 teams. Only scoring 6 goals though in 12 games just isn't getting it done.

Eastside is probably most improved in my eyes from what I saw during the summer.

Any of the buttom 4 could switch with the top few teams in the Premier division and you wouldn't see much change.

FCSC and FCP refuse to tie anyone this year so far. 12 games and 0 ties.

For this age group its fair to say the Timbers alliance dominates right now. We will see in the future if that changes.

Teams going OYSA will not compete in NWCL next season.

The rules say that to qualify you need to finish top 4 in OPL... they did that so they will qualify for next year and as long as they have US club cards they are welcomed to do so. However, it will be the last year they can go up and do it unless something is changed with how they earn their spots in NWCL.

Remember in the past ***C teams would play in a non OPL league in spring (just like they are doing this year) so they could qualify for state cup. however, they still did NWCL. Its because NWCL starts before OPL starts, so its not based on what league you are playing in teh same year. Its based on if you qualified the year before. For example if the U11 teams this year that qualified during the Beaverton cup chose to play OYSA this year they still would have been allowed in NWCL.
