I'm simply saying that the girls who were fast, athletic, smart, in shape, and driven at 5 years old are still the best players on my DDs soccer team and the majority of the overweight, out of shape, slower and not as smart players are still the lesser players on the team. True: some have dropped out (both top & bottom players), and some have joined her team from other teams or other sports (both top & bottom level players again) but the overall "pecking/ranking order of the players has basically been the same for five years. All of the players have improved and some are closing the gap but most of the ranking changes have been in the middle or lower end. Unless, it's a new player, I don't see any of the existing players passing up the top five in the next five years either. They might train hard but the top five are training hard too and seem to have the edge in speed, athleticism & tactical awareness. It might just be her team or I might just be terribly wrong but.... The only chance I see is if puberty is very bad or very good soccer-wise for some of the players. Regardless. I still think every kid should try their best but I don't think parents should be disappointed if genetics is holding their kid back.

Sometimes it is not geneticis as coaching chemistry with players. Thats why players move teams and clubs. Be careful what you say about the pecking order. Soccer is just like a job, if your under appreciate/ not ackowledged, you go somewhere for growth opportunites and where contribution counts.

My opinion - it's your team that is unique. Most players who have desire to get better won't stay on a team or with a coach with a 5 year run histoy of same pecking order. That's like staying at a dead end job with no chance for promotion.

There is a player who left a team (not considered a star player) for a middle of road team and guess what, just heard made RTC. Sometimes not all about genetics, sometimes more circumstances.

All good points. I think this team is probably fairly unique since the "pecking order" stayed consistent through multiple coaches as well. The top five are outstanding athletes who are the top in every sport every year so far. If you are in the Bend, Eugene or RV area, players really only have one club option though so it's tough to go somewhere else to have a better chance to develop and shine. Maybe try playing on the B team for awhile? I don't know. It's an interesting (and sounds like rare) dynamic. We only have one kid though so it's all I've known and thought it odd when folks w/older kids all said the star players would be totally different down the road.

Well I'll give it my best shot.

The game of the week is clearly Westside TS vs ***C. After watching these two teams through the summer and in the first few weeks, Honestly it could go either way. These two are in a situation where if there are any kids sick/injured it could mean the other team wins. This weekend I will go with either a Tie or maybe a ***C win just becuase they seem to have been very strong in the first few weeks of league so far. But honestly either result wouldn't shock me.

FC Portland vs Thusc should be a good game. I expect Thusc to come out and win this game, but a Tie might be very likely. So I'm going to go with Tie for this game.

VFC vs Copa, this is the battle of the bottom 2. I fully expect copa to pull it together and get a win in this game.

Westside TS vs Eastside. This should be another good game. I think Westsides speed is a bit too much for Eastside and they pull out a 1 or 2 goal win.

Thusc vs VFC. Thusc should come in and get themselves at least a 2 goal win in this game.

***C vs Copa. ***C will either come in with tons of confidence from a win saturday or playing angry because of a tie or loss. Either way I think they come in strong and beat copa.

FCP vs FCSC. FCSC will try to just launch the ball down field all game, and I think FCP will be organized enough to stop that. They come out with a 1 goal win.

THUSC vs FC

I don't care if my child ever develops into a scorer. She's currently a defender and loves it. But to say those scoring at the age of 5 or 10 will always be the leading scorer is just ridiculous. Those parents are in for a rude awakening in a few years.

I'm the parent of a goal scorer, what do you mean when you say I'm in for a rude awakening in a few years? I could care less if my daughter scores goals, and I don't care what position she plays on the field. She loves to play soccer and would play any position on the field and be happy. But for some reason she always ends up the goal scorer? So what rude awakening am I in for? I actually could see her playing midfield as she is good with the ball at her feet but every coach she has plays her at forward and I'm okay with that. Heck I'm okay if she played center back and so is she. She is willing to do whatever she has to for her team and just wants to play soccer. Bring on the rude awakening lol

I suggest you dont listen to people on this site in reference to your goal scorer. They are speaking from a position of emotion not reason. If your daughter is playing at the premiere level now and scoring goals often there is an extremely good chance she will be scoring goals in bunches for along time to come. It also sounds like she would be comfortable moving around the field if needed. That is a good thing, this pyramid of players gets smaller as they get older and kids will be moved. Hope your daughter and your family enjoy the ride and dont let a## clowns with emotion and bad intentions bring you down.

Honey, your in for a rude awakening. I have an older child and the previous poster is correct about how much things change by U14.

And honestly, if your DD loves to score she would not not happy playing center back ALL year. Maybe a few games to be a "team player" for the coach but, if a coach told you your 'scorer" had to play center back ALL year with no opportunity to change you'd not be so happy so spare me the "cheerleader" mom speech stuff. Ain't fooling anyone. In fact, if you volunteer your daughter to play center back for the rest of the year I bet your daughter would be screaming at you in the car by the end of the year '"Why did you tell the coach I would be happy playing center back all year Mom". First few games ok but, over 10 league games and tournaments too. Please.

Also, for all those who poke cheap shots at soccer moms I hate to tell you but, the "soft in the middle" figured Dads are just as bad if not worse.

Pyramids do get smaller and if you had a kid who is older and premier you would also know that a few impact players mean less and are harder to find as you get older and kids with solid skills become way more valuable and that based more on how much you practices your other skills then just shooting a ball in net.

Agree game is ***C and TS. I watched and TS has a little edge with quicker ball movement. ***C has fast front line but, if TS is aware and play to watch for this then I think will end up TS 1-0 game.
