Originally posted by Unregistered View PostCorrect, Right now Copa TS has the breakers on their side. This tournament isn't really about winning it though, its about finishing top 2 in your bracket. I also wouldn't say ET is completely out of it. They still have games against FC portland and FCSC which if they win both of those would leave them with a record of 2-1-1. Lets say Thusc wins all their games, if Eastside does that then FC portland would finish with a record of 1-2-1 and Westside copa would finish with a record of 1-2-1. So they still have a legit shot, but they want thusc to win out as well.

End of day 2 recap
Group A
***C is in really good shape right now. Baring any crazy results (and i mean really crazy) they will qualify for one of the NWCL spots. They still have a shot for the championship but will need a little help from CFC.
Westside holds there own destiny for everything. They hold the Goal differential by 1 over ***C right now, and all they need to do is score 1 goal to secure there spot in NWCL.
CFC needs a 3-0 win over Westside to grab a NWCL spot.
the other teams have struggled quite a bit so far.
Predictions: ***C and westside both move onto NWCL. Not sure who ends up making the championship game. But both likely go undefeated in group play.
Group B
Thusc has already grabbed their spot in NWCL, well done ladies, and has grabbed a spot in the championship game.
Westside Needs to win and out do Eastside to grab the second spot in NWCL. Eastside and FCP both need help from Thusc to jump westside for the second spot. FCSC brings up the bottom of the group.
From what I have seen this year, if you had to pick 8 teams for OPL Premier division this would be the eight i would pick (in no particular order)
Thusc, ***C, Westside Copa TS, Westside Copa, Eastside, CFC, EMFC, FC Portland

So the morning games are done and this is where we stand.
Westside TS and ***C tied with 39 points, same Goal differential, but Westside didn't let any goals in (well done ladies). They get into the champsionship game, unlucky ***C, but both teams played well. Congrats on making it to NWCL.
In bracket B Eastside beat FC portland and with a little help from Thusc managed to jump Westside Copa. Congrats to both Eastside and Thusc for making NWCL.
I wouldn't put too much stock in the final games today. The real goal was making NWCL so all the teams really played their hearts outs in the pool play and had 4 games in a short time period. This fifth game will have a lot of tired girls who mentally will have a hard time doing well. Looking at the whole tournament though I think it added some clarity in who should be in the Premier division for Fall OPL.
Shoe ins:
Westside Copa TS
***C
Thusc
Eastside
CFC
Probables:
Westside Copa
EMFC
FC portland
Group that hopes they take more than 8 teams in the premier divsion, or have work to do to get into the probable group:
BSC
SSC
FCSC
Lake Oswego
That of course is just my opinion, but there wasn't much in this tournament to show otherwise.

[QUOTE=Unregistered;1049687]I guess will see soon enough if your spot And just like last yrs
u11's every team is beatable, but I think to the original posters position that they are a shoe in for premier division is probably spot on as they have beat copa ts, fcp, thusc, and emfc, all clubs that will probably be in premier this fall as well. Just like Et, will and lake o and probably cfc. If they were to win this weekend then yes they probably are the team to beat, and if I had to guess they will be beat at some pt, just like everyone else. No one will run the table most likely. Kids grow, teams gel and all have some adjustments to make moving to the 11v11 format.
I'd say I'm pretty spot on so far...although missed on wt copa, they will. have 9 teams in premier just like last yr I'm guessing.

In any case, I hope the '02 class can push each other to play at a high level and intensity.
As for bracket B, FCSC has the ability to get upsets (especially at u11) but overall they aren't at the same level as the top 5-6 teams in Oregon.

So even if everyone in the group played each other (5 games) the result between ***C and Westsound wouldn't have mattered since CFC would have had 2 loses. Its not always fair, but its hard to say the best two teams in that division didn't move on considering CFC could have knocked off either, but didn't.

At least the teams that make it into Premier will have more chances to play one another! The only unfortunate deal will be if a premier level team gets stuck in D1. Although it probably gets down to a bit of luck of the draw for the teams on the bubble.

It was their tourney, of course they don't get bracketed together. Hold a tourney, you get to make the rules.
