Wow, that's sad. We're just starting out with a U11 so we're not up on all the political stuff. I'm not sure how much fun this will be...

Won't Timbers Alliance, THUSC, etc have to play each other in the OPL in Fall anyway?

Summers used to be fun in the area because it was alot of soccer- now just alot of politics!
Or - just like your team, player availability plays a rather large part in that as well. there are still some 02 parents that have yet to figure out that summer is tournament season.

Not true. Timing and collecting team fees is more of an issue. Especially when it is a new team, and especially when families are new to the classic experience.

No politics involved. WST Club doesn't tell managers and coaches which tournaments they cannot enter. I imagine it is the same for a lot of other clubs in the area.

Best of luck to everyone in their summer tournaments and Fall Leagues!

Washington Timbers should be somewhere on that list.

U11 is a great year to start the classic experience. Disregard the political rhetoric and enjoy the games. U11s have one more up on those that wait until U12 to leave rec and try out, so it's all good for you and your family.

For what it's worth, financial hardships have changed the summer tournament seasons for a lot of teams. There are more tournaments now so teams have to really pick and choose what tournaments that they can register for. After making out checks for club registration and uniforms, then trying to come up with money to cover summer tournaments, coach's travel, and team fundraisers, it can be sticker shock.

Eastside timbers Cascadia challenge is the following weekend, so a lot of teams are probably choosing either or

Rookie parent here. We scheduled our vacation right after school gets out (like all our other years). So my daughter will miss her first tournament with a new team. Too bad, looking forward to seeing how my daughter does on a bigger field with the increase in competition.

Don't really understand all this political talk (hope I never do), but excited to see how my daughter does at this level.

Everything will be fine. Enjoy these years and new level of games ahead of her. Our family has traveled so much for tournaments, friendlies, and ODP events. When we could, we would plan mini vacations arriving in town ahead of the team or staying on afterwards. Family time works out well even in places like Las Vegas, where we saw dolphins and the big cats, and did hikes outside of the city.

Good for you. I really like how you make this positive for the family. I know it can be frustrating to plan family vacations in advance. We usually plan ours around the 4th of July and that works. Wish the coach/club would plan a tentative schedule before tryouts, but understand that it might change.

Actually, get your summer tournament schedule, THEN plan your vacations. http://www.talking-soccer.com/TS4/im...ons/icon10.gif

Even easier. Just look at the list of tournaments in the area and then plan your vacation on weekends of the crummy tourneys (ie. Clash, Beaverton Cup, Cascadia Challenge, etc.). Even if your team goes to these tournaments you won't be missing much. :)

True, but some are a little shinier than others. If your team is Premier division level you need to travel to Seattle or NorCal at least once a summer.
