I would explain it like this: Look at Crossfire Premier out of Seattle. They typically have a pool of 25+ kids at each age level. Their more successful teams had a minimum of 18 D1 committed athletes. To me " filler" is a player that could not make a pool for Crossfire Premier. Guarantee you there are players on the Oregon ECNL teams that would not have made the ODP pools in the past and certainly would not have landed as a starter on the A team.
Everyone else is filler. Some of the filler may be highly skilled but lacking athleticism needed to out perform at the higher levels. Others may be very fast but lack skill. Filler doesn't mean they are bad kids or unworthy of play somewhere it simply means they are NOT elite and only playing in the league because a minimum number of players is needed and without them they cannot field a team.
Having said that, I guarantee you that much of the filler would be replaced if some of the higher level TA girls decided they wanted to play on an ECNL team. Truth be told some parents are more grounded than others and actually understand when little Suzy is not even the star of an average good team so they choose not to endure the expense and inconvenience of playing as filler on an ECNL team. Other less grounded parents come on to sites like this and ramble on about how much better their kid's team, club, league is.
The parents of the highest level players are disappointed and wish that Oregon would consolidate so that their child could play much closer to their potential.

Comparing X-fire Premier and Oregon ECNL is currently like comparing apples to oranges. But they also have about a five / six year head start. Are the local ECNL teams in the top ten in the nation? of course not. However, at many age groups they did as well or better then expected. Having 'Filler' is a chance for those girls to strive to be better. They will be playing with some of the best players in the state and other 'filler' players that are coming from the local ecnl teams or other 'premier' level teams that may not be D1 material but are still some of the better players in the area. It's consolidation. It's what Oregon t/S has been clamoring about for years. It's here and yet people still bitch. Time to move on. Get on board or wallow in what's left.

The full time ECNL marketers will be here for the next year selling their product. Like time share salesmen in the cabo airport.

FC saw a huge influx of very good players this past spring and the same will happen again next spring. Every team in the Portland metro area will lose multiple players to ECNL, whether you want to believe it or not. It will happen. You can participate in ECNL, or you can stay at your current club and play in a league that, while having several competitive teams, will be at a level that is a notch lower than it is today.
