So your team would have done what instead?

This is an interesting result. Copa TS is one of the biggest most physical teams in Oregon, and I would say certainly top 5 in talent.(and I think the top 5 are all fairly equal and any given week a different team might win) I wouldn't have thought they would get totally shellacked. I have always thought their defense was one of their stronger aspects.

Not a ts parent, just saying that bracket was brutal. A and D tough brackets to end up in.

Nothing new. Westside TS's modus Operandi has always been to look for big, mean and physical. There is nothing inherently wrong with that, except by U13 and definitely by U14 the girls on the other teams will have hit their growth spurt, but they will also have skills. The problem lies it's not a destination club, they're off at the edge of the known Oregon soccer universe. So any success at the very young ages dissapates until there really isn't anything left.

If your dd's ultimate goal is to play frosh, then JV and finally, a year or two stint on the local H.S. varsity team as cannon fodder then by all means enjoy.

But at this point they are (arguably) the best team in Oregon. If not the best team certainly one of the best. And if they go to regionals and get just killed, what's that saying about the rest of our girls teams? Not good! Look back over the last year, how many goals were scored on copa ts?

Skill will almost always win. The other teams at FWRL were probably as big as Copa but better skilled. FWRL is just foreshadowing for what will happen locally in the next year or two. They are currently the 'best' in OYSA this last year, but mark my words. They will be similar to the older TS teams as they age. They will need to get lucky to finish 4th next year, especially if the leagues merge. By U14 they will be middle of the pack and all but non existent in the HS years. So to answer your question, they were better then everyone else in OR this last year, they were simply bigger and more aggressive. Come back to this thread in a couple of years and revisit this comment and enjoy the moment that you called them the best in Oregon while holding back the laughter as they fade into oblivion.

Exactly. Haters gonna hate. CppaTS played less boot ball than most other TA or OPL teams. We sent our best '02 team and they ended up in a bracket with 2 SoCal teams. Any other Oregon '02 would have been shellacked even worse. California teams are on a whole different level.

Once you hit 6-0 and 7-0, there really isn't "worse".

No Oregon team would be competitive with those two teams, but an attempt at posession may have minimized the damage somewhat?! Would be interesting to see how a team like Bridlemile who would at least attempt to posess the ball would fair versus these teams?

If BSC wins State Cup or FWRL league next year we can find out.

if you're not used to the speed and attacking sophistication of the top national teams, you can get buried fast. Playing these teams more will help enormously.

Most local teams are happy to target 1 player and hope she gets free. These top teams fill 3 channels with runners, a mid dribbling through everyone up the middle, and another mid on a delayed run. The whole thing looks like Lakers showtime. They are bigger, faster, and more skilled.

if you've lost 7-0 the first couple times, regroup and shoot for 3-0 the next. Smart defense can go a long way. But you can't be smart if you've never seen it before.

And you won't ever see it in Oregon. There are way too many clubs and way too many "premier" teams and players that are far from "premier".

Exactly. There should be no more than 3 "Premier" clubs in Oregon: 2 in the Washington, Multnomah, Clackamas, Marion, Clark county area and 1 centered in Lane county. Look at the total population and the distribution and compare it to So Cal. That's all you get here, is 3 clubs. Any more than that and the top teams are too watered down to be competitive on the regional / national level.

For girls U10 to U14 there is only two premiere clubs in PDX. The rest are all smoke and mirrors. If you have to ask who the two clubs are this conversation is pointless. When girls reach U15 there is three and it gets a little diluted.

If any team can play the right brand of soccer it is BSC. There coach has won state cup in California and knows how to win.
