Sadly this is a fact of life. Board members kids, managers kids, the kids from parents who have money to throw at the team, parents who brown nose, or chat up a coach constantly they get more opportunities. Not just stuff like this but playing time and other such stuff that gives them advantages as well.

I have a question along the birth month lines.

If a 02 is on a u12 team is there any point in trying out for ODP if they haven't done so in the past? Aren't most of the spots going to go to the 02 u13 girls?

Yes, most of the spots will go to the older girls. Fact of life.

I agree with that statement about the annoying parents and that is sadly how some kids are selected for things like this. If that rubbed you the wrong way, maybe you should look in the mirror.

Couldn't agree more. We have several of these parents on our team. They are the parents who are insecure themselves and for some reason they feel the need to live their life through their childs life. They know without their direct involvement their child wouldn't make it on their own. And that folks, is sad.

True! Same on the teams my kids have played on. Funny thing is those parents complain about other parents who might be doing the same thing & claim "I would NEVER do that...". Those parents also sit & watch almost every practice. Totally live through their kids and micromanage their soccer lives. The coaches (& even Docs) cave into these people. Sad but true.

I love your little Leroux and when I was talking to the coach last night he said" he liked her almost as much as My little Alex"

CFC own gold at U12 & U13. Strong groups of the youngers. Do the best still peel away & go up to Pdx (ecnl, maybe) clubs when older?

I don't think so. Cfc is becoming a strong girls club. They are getting good coaches and trainers. Lots of talented kids in the Salem area (Salem/Albany/Woodburn/Silverton/Albany..etc) and only one club. As opposed to Portland where there are a lot of competing opportunities.

If you can get a good experience locally, why spend the money and commit to all the driving?

I understand there are some good travel experiences in Portland with ECNL and Academy, but the cost in time and money is staggering.
