Good for you if your 10 yr old is already somehow visioning that they will develop physically and mentally in a dramatic upward arc and get recruited to play at university.

Of the kids playing at U11 in Oregon, what percent will play college ball? I think it's really small percentage.

I'm all for dreaming big. Best to all these kids.
At my house the percentage is 100%. I would be extremely disappointed if my DD let me down.

THAT's a healthy attitude if I ever heard one.
You might want to start saving now for the SHRINK your kid is going to need to recover from her childhood.

I am assuming they are referring to the Washington Timbers. Guess moving from 11 a side all year down to 9 a side against teams who have been playing it all year is tougher than they thought. I did reach out after seeing the score to a friend of mine on that team and asked their opinion. Basically just said the other team was really good, I believe it was seattle united, and it was tough to watch the other team know exactly what they wanted to do on the field while their team doesn't know how to defend attack in the new 9v9 system.

To play 9v9 on a smaller field your players have to be aggressive and have excellent first touch. If you don't, you get run over. It really doesn't have anything to do with formation or positioning, that is just an excuse. They had ample opportunity to play in 9v9 tournaments to prepare. They just chose not to. Coaches mistake. He won't get the chance to make mistakes next year, someone else will be at the helm...

So the answer is not to coach formation and positioning... Just get aggressive players with touch?

I think there were a combination of things at play.

Not at all. All facets are important. It's just that playing 9v9 shouldn't be thought of as the primary reason for losing 8-0. The Seattle teams play fast 1-touch 9v9. She who hesitates is lost...

                            Good response

                            Thanks for clarifying.
