    WT U15 Samba

Westside has done it again. Just heard that this team of girls wers told they will be getting their 4th coach of the season! Parents and players are extremely frustrated. WT should be ashamed of what they've done with this group of players, not to mention the parents. Personally I think they should apologize and return half their fee to them, lol yeah like that will ever happen. It's been plagued with drama from the beginning with parents complaining, coach fired, losing every game in a premier division they should NEVER have been placed in, etc, etc, the list goes on forever. Parents are asking what club to switch to next year already. Can't blame any of them!

Watching them play yesterday I have no doubt they would do good in D1, maybe they were just placed in the wrong bracket. Dont give up, just re-group a lil and play at the level the team is best suited for. Not every club can have 2 premier teams. Look at OSSA, their white team should never have been placed in Premier either and would probably do better at D1 as well.

Interesting post this morning and being a parent who has a girl on this team I felt compelled to comment. Unfortunately all we've heard this year is "hang in, don't give up yet" well I'm sorry to say as a family we've reached the point of no return. We are tired of hanging in and are most definitely looking for a new club. Can anyone give me some advice on a club that has a good D1 coach for U16 next year? My daughter wants to continue to play club through high school but at this level, which is where a majority of the Samba girls belong.

Well then, take a look at any of the teams the beat your DD's. First she has to make it past tryouts. You can as frustrated as you like, but if your DD cant qualify, then it maybe her best fit where she's at.

Is it "normal" for a team at the club level to have four different coaches in one season? Sounds damaging to the "team" aspect. I'd bail. But don't give up on soccer!!There are other clubs that care about their players and the families paying all those fees. Find the club and coach that is a good fit. Portland has great clubs throughout, maybe just not WT?

If you playing with Samba I would look at THUSC or FC

OSSA seems to put together decent second teams IN fact they have at least 2 in the semi final. Metros does not have the depth of coaches for developing strong B teams. And the ones they do have are committed to the boys. FC usually has quality B teams too, but I heard they wont have one at this age next year. It might be worth a try-out though, maybe your dd could sneak in on the Navy team

Thanks for the help. We were newer to Wt this year and its sad to have to look for a new club but sometimes we have to just find a better fit and do what's best for our DD.

Annnn you expected what from a BOYZ Club

I do have "some" sympathy for you and the girls on the team but seriously how many times do we here and the rest of the Portland soccer community have to tell parents that Westside is a boys club and the girls are there to pay the freight of the boys who are on scholarship?

OSSA, THUSC and FC Portland are very good recommendations. I'm not as familiar with this age group, so you can check the OPL web site for historical data on W's and L's, if you are concerned about that. Depending on the skill level of your DD you may want to check into if the club you are thinking of has a good 'B' team as well. Additionally do they have team at all the different ages. This is important, if your DD isn't all that, she can comfortably play on a competitive 'B' team until the skill level increases. Inversely, a larger program can allow for players movement if they are at a higher skill level and the club will let them 'play up'.

It is NOT the norm to have four different coaches in a season.

I can only speak from my experience, but my DD's club/team has three coaches at almost every age group. One for the 'A' team, one for the 'B' team and one that oversees both. They're coaches, not in name only, they are there in practices and games, sometimes all three will be in attendance. Every couple of years they will rotate a new one in, having the same coach for longer then 2 or 3 years isn't great either, IMHO. It's good to get a 'fresh look' at the kids talents, abilities and to have a new skill set instructed to them.

In short, shop and ask around, this site is fine for starters but go get some personal information and talk to some kids and / or their parents. If, as a parent you are suspicious, there is probably a reason for it. That goes for a new club as well as your current one.

What a crummy thing to say. These are kids. Probably the more accurate thing to say is that I'm responding to a 2nd tier person, although a first team *******.

Samba finished last in Premier and played the first place division 1 team PCU Red and beat them 4-1. If you look at how poorly the two division 1 teams did in State cup I'm not sure that droping down to division 1 is the answer.

And that has to be coming from a "recruiting" WT coach. I'd put my $1500 club fees on that.
