Could Oregon DOS get a job in the private sector

I've been thinking that the character and antics of many of our local DOC's would prevent them from having similar responsibilities and pay in the "real world" where they reported to a boss and where their behavior would be judged by an entire market not just the tiny slice of their clubs.

Which begs the question WHY do our local club boards put up with such behavior?

Any thoughts?

I believe that is why VTimbers hired a fulltime GM....there needs to be some accountability and volunteer board members don't have time to micromanage DOC's......most DOC's need to be micromanaged and would be more productive if they were

The OPL DOC's are in cahoots, obviously. If they stick together their jobs are safe.
They went against the OYSA to set up a 'Brave New World' via the OPL. However, the OPL are doing pretty much the same job as OYSA minus the sanctioning of the state association. Remember all the items the OPL promised, such as, no travel to Medford, Bend, etc. Oops, we now have those clubs in the OPL, easier rescheduling of games (which is now harder than ever)?

Now the OPL is n GW's pocket because they all want Timbers endorsement!

Honestly. Think about it. 100s of people affected by decisions they make, each with their own opinion. You try to make everyone happy. No matter what decision you make someone will like it and someone will complain. Are you seriously going to tell me that in your job if you polled 100s of people there wouldn't be a variance of opinions. I am not saying that I agree with all the decisions. But some of the replies are so negative.

Let's play that old game President for a Day. Do you think if you got to make every decision for the OPL or OYSA that this forum would be silent because everyone would agree with your decisions? ....

First of all, there aren't too many jobs that the DOC's could do outside of youth soccer/coaching knowing their backgrounds.

Secondly, the point is the $$$ that some of them are making and the methods they are using to keep their jobs safe.

Of course 'you can't please all of the people all of the time', but their decisions show little interest for their constituents. However, if they're smart enough to keep these jobs, more power to them.

In fact to thwart controversy, i would side with teams from clubs not directly affiliated with our "small mans group" . As I see it, we [OPL/OPC] have the largest clubs and thus the greatest amount of talent and we should be able to beat all comers anywhere we play.

Our club requires an A license, extensive head coaching experience at a premier soccer club or college program, management experience, a college degree, and college or professional playing experience before we would consider anyone qualified to be DOC. Most of the DOC's in Oregon meet these qualifications don't they?

Is he the one with the posted resume that states "all around great guy"? I am sure that is a solid point on a resume.

Our DOC has come in and revitalized our program. He has taken the initiative to get rid of the poor coaches and bring in coaches that understand their role. He has tripled the number of players and I think we now have 7 more teams over a 14 month period. He is approachable and truly does want the best for the players. He knows every player at the club and is involved in all programs. It is a real pleasure to see my son flourish at our club. I have certainly learned a lot over these last few months. Not all DC's are arrogant and obnoxious, just the majority.
