    Any good clubs out there?

As tryouts near I am discouraged. Seems like teams are formed even before tryouts through "backdoor conversations" and the coaching selection at many clubs not so great. Are there any good "honest" clubs left? If anything, what are the best teams to try for at age levels?

Nope, none. I would move on to another sport.

If you believe the crap on this blog, you are screwed.

Good girl clubs: THUSC, FC Portland are your best bet if you're on the West side. You really only have one choice on the East side.

Boys: there is more parity. FC Portland, WSM (if you can stomach Cony), OSSA for u15 and up. East side is sting on the boys.

Pretty normal for most teams to include a large number of returning players. "Open" tryouts aren't really that open. The coaches know who they want and, barring surprise turnouts, have their rosters pretty much established before tryouts.

Good players even when unknown are not turned away by most teams. If the player is average good they may have to prove themselves before moving up.

THUSC if you can stomach Tom and the Kolaid and FC if you can stomach their BS and promise that you will play at U of P

              Good?

What do you mean by good? We were at one of the 'top' clubs in the area then went to a smaller club and the DOC and coaches are better. Our DD might not make it to UP now, but she has a lot more fun and is becoming a better player. And it is closer to home and school.

We moved to THUSC boys from WST and it has been the best thing that could have happened for my son. He loves playing and I think the coaches are pretty good. I know the DOC is always at the fields monitoring the practice sessions and games. It has a great feel about the club and it's a good environment for a young player to thrive. I would highly recommend it.

We originally went to FC Portland, as everybody said this was the best club and we didn't know anything. We got involved on a team and started to learn things. It took us a couple of years, but now we are at BSCPortland. The DOC knows every kid and the team coach is better than the one we had.

As someone said before. Eastside Timbers is pretty much your only option unless you want to drive to LO or the other side of town.

If you live close enough to the river, you can go to Vancouver Timbers tryouts the week before Eastside's. Doesn't hurt to have options.

Two options on the inner east side of Portland are PCU and Northeast United.

How far Eastside? Eastside soccer is basically Gresham, Happy Valley etc. The fields are all well east of 205. In other words, unless you live out there it's just as big a hassle to get there as it is to Hillsboro or Beaverton. PCU and NEU are both closer in.
