As tryouts near I am discouraged. Seems like teams are formed even before tryouts through "backdoor conversations" and the coaching selection at many clubs not so great. Are there any good "honest" clubs left? If anything, what are the best teams to try for at age levels?

If you believe the crap on this blog, you are screwed.
Good girl clubs: THUSC, FC Portland are your best bet if you're on the West side. You really only have one choice on the East side.
Boys: there is more parity. FC Portland, WSM (if you can stomach Cony), OSSA for u15 and up. East side is sting on the boys.

Good players even when unknown are not turned away by most teams. If the player is average good they may have to prove themselves before moving up.

Good?
What do you mean by good? We were at one of the 'top' clubs in the area then went to a smaller club and the DOC and coaches are better. Our DD might not make it to UP now, but she has a lot more fun and is becoming a better player. And it is closer to home and school.

We originally went to FC Portland, as everybody said this was the best club and we didn't know anything. We got involved on a team and started to learn things. It took us a couple of years, but now we are at BSCPortland. The DOC knows every kid and the team coach is better than the one we had.
