You seem like someone who knows a bit about this. Your response implies Surf aka THUSC may no longer be an affiliate of THPRD, and therefore cost of using fields, if they get approved to even use the fields, could go up. LOL this sounds like an epic failure.

Being a loyal Thorns family we heard stories back when we were going through WST to use THPRD fields too. No one is saying WSM lost affiliation so this must mean WSM is doing something right.

Wonder if this might mean a fee increase to Surf teams especially since we hear it’s more about families serving the brand than the other way around there. Sure glad we stayed with Thorns and we don’t have to deal with any of this.

Whoa. This has to be satire. Are you f-ing joking? Thorns Academy used to practice at Powerlines park, Conestoga MS, a random park in West Linn, futsal courts at Cedar Park, etc…. It was a hot mess. They had no field until Daddy Paulson gave them access to Providence Park, since he had two daughters playing there.

Crossfire, NWE/Surf always had more field stability than the Thorns.

you people are wild. Just make stuff up to fit your nonsense BS narrative.

It’s such a treat. Especially when the other practices are at a broke down middle school.

I don't know how the other countries do it, playing on dirt fields etc....

other countries play on pristine grass fields even those that have similar weather to us. Yes there are poor countries that play on dirt but the rest have it better than us.

I can assure you that the other countries playing on dirt don’t charge stupid parents $20k a year for the privilege. Remember that when you are sitting on a grassy hill watching your daughter share field space with 6 other teams at a middle school and do cone drills and rondos.

other countries have real academies that are based on selection, not parent payment's. It’s actual merit, not Merritt.

Very true, but it sure is nice to have a Merritt. You can argue he has done more for Portland soccer and women soccer around the world than any other individual.

Merritt has now entered the chat. Bro, don’t you have other things to do?

But since you piped up and want to self promote, let me attempt to burst your bubble…

To say Merritt has done more for soccer in Portland and around the world is so stupid it is hard to even reasonably respond. First, MP was only a figure head for his daddy who needed to put federal TARP funds to work in order to shelter them. Daddy Hank was friends with the board of several sports leagues including MLS. This is not coincidental…look at what is happening now on sports, it’s all private equity ownership. Why? Because they can hide money and the media companies need it. Movies and TV are not money making nowadays, but live sports drive ads.
unfortunately for Daddy Hank, Merritt blew it. He mismanaged the clubs so much that he was forced to sell the Thorns and the Timbers are not even close to being as valuable as the other clubs and are deflating by the year.

Portland area soccer is so bad, at the youth level, compared to comparable cities/states. Colorado, Utah, Kansas, Michigan, etc…. Because of the Crony losers that still dominate the youth landscape. Including the Thorns Academy, which is nothing more than a hodge lodge of local club rejects pretending to be a “pro-academy” … they are not.
