You will get more touches on the ball in the PTFC resident camp than an entire season of ODP (comparing the first year OYSA took over). Any time your child gets a chance to play with new players and new coaches, they have a chance to improve a lot. Most of the negative input here likely comes from club coaches and leadership. The exposure to other players and coaches have them scared that they will loose players once they realize there may be greater talent and coaching out there. If your club is negative on it then they are the ones you should think twice about. If they are supportive of it then you might be in a good place. Everything about US soccer is about profit, this should not be a factor in whether you do it or not.

My oldest DD went to a couple residential camps: one at University of Portland and one Timbers/Thorns camp. She had a blast staying in the dorms, hanging with her friends, playing soccer, and goofing around. And guess what? She eventually went on to play D1 soccer.
Do I think those camps played a part in advancing her career? Who knows. It maybe showed her that her dreams were possible, but I don’t think she developed significantly more as a player during her 3-5 day camp. That was never the goal.
My daughter loved soccer, so she was excited about a soccer camp. She had a blast, and she still sometimes mentions things from those days.
