My kid plays for WA Timbers. I heard a rumor that one of the 09 boys got an invite this past week to attend. Anyone heard anything specific? It would be cool to have someone from SW WA invited.

oh and yes, people should quit bashing being invited to something like this. Pretty cool for kids. The more kids from an area that get invited reflects positively on the area. Usually all of the names are released. Anyone seen a news release? It will be interesting to see how the Portland area ranks compared to seattle. For the girls Portland had 1 and seattle had multiple.

I expect that a boy’s U14 US National team minicamp is coming. Anyone heard anything about when and know if anyone from Oregon got invited?

The strength of a region is weighted on statistics like this. Seattle seemed pretty strong based off the girls invited from there.
      This is the truth….

The reason for only one invite from the area is simple. Most coaches and directors are not involved with the national camp scouts and group. It’s very political. The only 2-3 that are heavily active are Rochelle Hearns from Bridge City and now Sarah Plymale from SCA. They are “scouts” for the national youth teams for the west region. And you can guess who they “scout”. Rochelle isn’t really around much at all anymore and Sarah is only with SCA, so very little interaction with other teams/players in Portland.

The while thing is a joke and sad for players in this state.

But Washington isn’t much better. They pull from very few clubs as well and it’s all about the coach/director.

These camps - for the boys are a waste of time. Look at our YNT (boys) - all MLS academy players - even the U14s will be boys playing up to U15 in an MLS academy.

Better than the boys.
In a large paragraph, you just told this entire forum that you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Everything paid for by US Soccer and Nike. Parents don’t pay a nickel. Play against the players who have been identified as the best in the country at that particular point in time.

yeah huge waste of time lol go be jealous somewhere else

This is in regards to the USYS ODP National Team, not the US Youth National Team. For starters there is no U14 US National Team

Okay proud parent. The sooner you realize that US soccer is NOTHING but politics, the sooner you will understand why your misguided pride is so comical. The entire world is ahead of the US for a reason. And while I am sure you are getting ready to make some comment about the US Women, just stop. US Women are back to the pack now. When you do not have impartial scouts, you have nepotism. Sadly, that is how US Soccer operates. Not what you know or can do. It is who you know and who you can do.

Not a parent, just a bystander who occasionally butts in. Also, “proud parent” is not an insult or diss, weak try there. If I was this person’s parent, you’re damn, right I would be so proud.

The original point was that it’s not a waste of time. You said nothing to disprove that buddy. Do you have any data to support that youth national team coaches (U14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and u20) were chosen by way of nepotism? Your point about US soccer being political is true, but you are probably referencing the head coach of the men’s teams and his brother at US soccer.

Youth national team selections have been getting more and more democratized since the start of the ussda in 2008. Even if a player is chosen for a camp and they aren’t good enough, guess what happens? They aren’t invited back to the next camp.

The entire world is not ahead of the US. again, just untrue. A simple Google search will show you that, but common sense should do the trick before you need to use Google. The main reason why the United States is behind the very best nations in the world is mainly because this country has been playing soccer close to 100 years less than those other top countries.

get your panties out of a bunch and just be happy for the kids getting selected. Because a grown adult whining about children playing soccer is just a waste of time. If it’s not a waste of time to you, then you need help.

"SCA don't develop giants they develop ballers! The only club who will have boys AND girls going! Says a lot"

I would be shocked if a team that cannot find a league to play in will be sending players to camps. Is it not an Oregon ID camp that US Soccer feels obliged to put on? SCA are a long way from competing with 2006s boys and girls of the 'real clubs'

HA HA real clubs, SCA has not played in a state league (until now) and yet has 5 players across male and female u14 going to the national team camp. These ' real clubs' you mean that have access to 100's of fields, resources and so on i.e United PDX are sending no one. Do you not see the irony in your statement??

Before you play the politics card it is the same card that completely alienated SCA from the state league carried out by Larson, GW and all their cronies. Who if they had any shame would be hugely red faced by a club who went down a genuine player development route are doing exactly that.... Developing players.

if we are talking about youth national trams specifically…

Having a lot of players attend a national team camp in one single age group is awesome, but it is not an indicator that your club as a whole is good at developing players. If SCA can establish youth national team placement consistently over the next few years, then they can say that.
