On the boys side Oregon Premier are in the 4th division @ U19! Nobody cares about where a 4th division team places!
When I wrote this, I didn't mean to take a shot at Oregon Premier- I was just saying that it is crazy that people would highlight a top team at a club winning anything but the top bracket. I don't think many OR teams entered the "Best of the Best" and crazy that teams would make the decision to pay all that money to play in any division other than "Best of the Best".

At $1700/team it's one of the most expensive tournaments- specially when you consider you are only guaranteed 3 games!

    Why do it?

You clearly have never been outside of Oregon before. If you did, You know what you are saying is ignorant.

you should stay at lake Oswego and play in their top bracket and feel good about yourself.

You are making no sense whatsoever. Which actually makes perfect sense.

Getting into the 'best of the best' group is pretty darn difficult. If you weren't a decent MLSNext or ECNL (Regional Qualifier) or a known quantity, you just can't get in. That being said any division below 'best of the best' is really all the same. Watched a bunch of Super Black, Super White, Black etc matches this weekend and the difference was really not much.

As for college coaches the list was decent and I would have to say I saw 4-5 at every U16+ match. In the VIP tent the discussions never centered on the tournament bracket, just the individual players.

Lastly, the $1,700 is the least of the expenses for this tournament - Hotel was crazy spendy.

            Ignorant comment.

Im not saying don't travel. But surf is overpriced if you are playing best of the best. Playing in the 4th division is stupid.

Thank you, at least a reasonable comment.

You’ve clearly never been to surf then. Sorry you are on the outside looking in. We had multiple kids get contacts from coaches.

This is BS. Sorry, but not how modern recruiting works. Almost 100% done via video and club coach recommendations. Social media, etc. The days of coaches catching a glimpse of a player at a “showcase” is virtually dead.

if you want your kid to be recruited, you need to reach out to college coaches directly and attend ID camps. Send video, and communicate. Otherwise it won’t happen. Budgets for soccer at D1 schools is crazy low and travel recruiting is almost completely dead except for rare cases.

Uh, not exactly. While those methods may help get a coach to come see you, they won't normally secure a specific offer from a higher level college/university. That being said, you're right, the days of a coach 'catching a glimpse' died a long time ago. Unless your kid is an MLS Academy player, most players need to really reach out to coaches/schools and follow through.

I have two boys (twins) playing division 1 and another playing ECNL. You are right, I don't know what I'm talking about- glad you got contacts.

Both are broad examples of where you can find players that are good and also terrible.

College coaches want nothing to do with current stable of 'club' coaches due to their lack of ethics and judgement. Sell crazy elsewhere d1 mens coaches cant afford tp lean heavy on non profit local community grifters for scholarship players, they want to keep their jobs.

You are correct….except 1 main point. College coaches only reach out to a select few coaches/Directors that they trust. 90% of club coaches are full of BS and D1 coaches know this. But there are a select group of Directors and Coaches that are known and trusted to recommend players. This group is where the college coaches go for info.
mid your kid is good chances are they will cross paths with these coaches at some point and if you’re very lucky your club has solid ethical staff that have connections to the university coaches. Most clubs in Oregon do not unfortunately, but some do.

unless your kid is an undeniable talent, you will have to do some marketing sales to get college attention. That’s always been part of it.
