    Oregon ODP question

Why is the ODP from Oregon referred to as Timbers/Thorns ODP? EVery other program in the country contains the respective state name in some form, OPD Cal North, Washington ODP, etc.... Why is this?

    Because they own it.

isn't ODP supposed to be a state based program that is club neutral? Why are kids wearing Thorns and Timbers branding?

Agree, if this was truly about the best, why are there multiple teams in each age group? Select the top 18 or so, let then train ( and it needs to be more than 4-8 sessions) and be done.

A little true a little misguided.

They already had the real tournament in Arizona earlier this year. This is the Friendship cup and is only between a few states and every kid that made the first cut in the Arizona roster was invited back and plays in these games. The object was fun. Not necessarily beating every team.

Agreed that way too many boys participated.

Not true, they needed to invite in players to fill gaps

Partially correct. The Friendship Cup is a sub-regional event meant to provide another opportunity for players to be selected into regional camp. ODP is an identification platform, that's it. Now, do the Timbers monitize it and squeeze out what they can, absolutely.

Your answer is age dependent. Some age groups were huge.

No one in college or the pros cares if you do ODP or not. They all know that it's a 3rd tier money grab waste of time.

Of course the younger ages due to being enamoured with the timbers/thorns branding, from 8th grade on the huge drop in numbers is significant, mostly due to ECNL and GAL

That the players have to pay for if selected- luckily it’s in McMinnville, Or this year so plane tickets won’t be involved but will still probably cost around $500 to attend. And the best part about it is players will be picked for “regional camp” that don’t deserve to even be in the state odp pool to begin with….

Identification for what? Moms Instagram! This is no longer an identification program for the Olympics. Why it continues to be called ODP is beyond ridiculous.
