    Westside leaving Timbers Alliance

    Westside Timbers Families,

In light of recent events and after careful consideration, we have decided to withdraw from the Timbers Alliance. Starting with the 2022/2023 Season we will rebrand ourselves as Westside Metros Soccer Club, our Club’s original name from 1993.

This decision was not made lightly, as we have been a member of the Timbers Alliance since 2012. We appreciate our past relationship with the Timbers and Thorns and thank them for their support over the years.

We are looking forward to a fantastic 2022/2023 season --- more to come on our rebrand!

First Capital FC and now Westside Metros. Will Eastside United be next?

How soon before uPDX joins the Alliance?

(Maybe this the end game: BM wants to have the "it" club in town and likes to play political games--he maneuvers his club to be the junior partner with the Timbers, edging out their longtime partners. Better yet--Timbers and Thorns Academies end up at UPDX, possibly no longer free, because MP is sick of the whole thing; MLS doesn't require it be free).

Only one forbidden fruit allowed in the garden of Eden.

                  Not 2 bm & gw

Can't edge out those that leave of their own volition. Silly rabbit.

Timbers are having some PR issues right night now.

What recent events: Timbers or Westsides issues. Both have made the news lately

Suspect he's talking about the Paul Riley and Andy Polo situations. Perhaps these are both cases of "club cannot comment due to confidentiality laws, and therefore can't defend itself from the more unsavory allegations", but neither is a good look. And while #GWOut would make many in the Army happy, if there's a problem at providence park, I suspect it goes higher than Gavin. Time for Merritt to get the Dell Loy Hansen treatment?

None of that has anything to do with Westside, of course.

Yeah but Westside also had its issue, maybe the Timbers said we can't take that much heat.

What issue? The former mayor of Beaverton who got busted for kiddie porn, who was on the team's board of directors? That AFAIK has nothing to do with the club, as he wasn't involved with players in any way, and as soon as it became known that he was in trouble for this he was booted from the board. Unfortunately, there are lots of dirty old men in powerful places (it just got revealed over the weekend that a prominent newspaper magnate, long a promoter of "family values" and right-wing causes, was porking his daughter).

Or is there some other issue that I'm not aware of?
