Thorns hold top spot for a 2nd year. My prediction is they shoot themselves in the foot and drop after this season/during this season.
Thorns literally don’t have a track record of success. It’s a coin flip if it will be mediocre or a disaster. History tells us this.

don’t count on them being anything but gift wrapped blah.

Eastside 2010 is better than those teams. WA timbers 2010s are not.

This is the most hilarious thing I've read. The only reason that the Eastside 10s won State Cup this year was because the 2010 Thorns were playing up a year. When they did play in their own age division they were undefeated and had a 74 point goal differential for the season.

Yeah but the thorns don’t really do well when the ages get older. Their 04 and 03 teams werent even able to make it through a season with a healthy number of players. People leave or development isn’t great.

sounds like a stretch. could easily lose or win.

While I personally know Thorns kids that remain on the younger teams (09s-10s) and seem happy, this fact neither validates or invalidates your bad experience. Nor does talking to a few parents of younger players make me an expert on those teams, so I won’t.

As for our experience with the 07s-05s, which you clearly do not have a child on these teams, I will speak to what I know:

            1. The 05/04 2023 graduates combined team had to make cuts at tryouts this year with nearly 40 players trying out for this team. The team has commits to NCAA Div 1 RPI ranked #40 Grand Canyon, #50 Gonzaga x2 players, #109 University of Portland #130 Boston University #136 University of Montana and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head and I did NOT include any FC Portland or other club D1 commits that are joining the Thorns this year. The commits I mention are at least in some part or large part Thorns developed players. And the 2024 graduates were contacted today. I am aware of at least 5 players that were contacted by Top 50 ranked teams (out of 336 or so) players and many others by Top 100. And this is just Day 1 of contact for this age group. Oh and the 2024s have a full roster for next season, no “leaving” in large numbers as you are suggesting. I am aware of two NW Elite 2024s that left NW Elite this year for the Thorns. I know of one Thorns 2024 player that left for NW Elite. Not much changing around here.
            2. Coaches. Crap coaching usually does not produce these results. If you go by licenses, they have 2 A, 1 B, 1 C that I am aware of, not bad. At ANY TIME players/parents can be dissatisfied with a coach. It is a personal decision.
            3. Thorns need a non-profit partner to access field rentals in Oregon due to some archaic laws. Hence after YEAR 1 they partnered with Westside. There were not some “years” of mismanagement. Nice try. Then recently, 4+ years later Westside was not managing the Thorns in the way they wanted and the Thorns ended their partnership with Westside, not the other way around.
            4. Terrible teams? Hardly. Neck and neck or beating NW Elite. Finishing top half of age groups in league play.

Please take your generalizations about the entire Thorns Academy teams based on your experience and just be done. You had a really bad, no good, awful experience. Got it. This is not true for most current families and players (or they would have left) enjoying their Thorns Academy experience. No one should brush away your experience, but do not do that in return to ours.
Regarding 3. Paulson wanted something that Westside didn't agree to and both parties decided to end the relationship.

              Just found this forum.
My daughter is at NWEliteFC. Kevin Legg invited my her to come over to CrossFire from Untied PDX during her 8th grade year. People warned us not to go, it would be a horrible experience and a waste of money. I realized that everybody that told us that had kids that either didn't make the tryout at CrossFire, or their kids never got playing time and moved on. So I took their advice with a grain of salt.
I have read alot of VERY negative posts about ECNL here in Oregon.
Just wanted to share that we have had a fantastic experience and my daughter really grew as a player playing under Legg and Coach Rosie. She had quite a few schools interested and multiple offers.....She just committed to The University of San Francisco. We couldn't be more proud of her and happy with our ECNL experience so far. I don't think my daughter would have got the exposure she did had she not make the move up.
I know everybody's journey is different and wish all your kids good luck.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I enjoyed KL as he had a big influence on my daughter as well. I also appreciate the current direction of the club as Tiffeny Milbrett if nothing else will inspire these girls. She has played at the highest levels and every thing I have seen is positive thus far. Frankly, I appreciate every coach my daughter has had and they have all shaped her in different ways. I wouldn’t waste too much time on this site though because it’s frequented by a bunch of disgruntled people who rarely have anything of value to contribute. Good job on your daughter getting that opportunity, I hope she will have a great college experience.

This is true. The 2010 Thorns Academy played in the 2009 OYSA league and made it into the 2009 OYSA State Championship game. The Eastside 2010’s are not at their level. Not a put down to Eastside, just the reality.

Lu is delusional about her non-state cup winning team. Wa Timbers would lose to the Thorns 0-3 as well. They play in 4th tier of Surf Cup. The ECNL teams play 3 levels above that.

You clearly are delusional. We all know thorns are weak sauce and your guesses are far from what would really happen.

                      Regarding your comment and the original post…all bull s h i t

Paulson has nothing to do with any of it and doesn’t care.

Timbers/Thorns youth association is losing major numbers and money.
Thorns Academy is nearly broke. Request their finances and see for yourselves.

This was all based on cost and Westside cut bait as well.

good luck to TA running their own front and back office. It will be a chaotic disaster, watch and see

I was at this game, it could have been 0-8(06game)
udpdx had 1 cance on goal...only thing that put a damper was thorns player with significant knee injury
                        it was not close
Then the 08 thorns beat the 07 udpdx state Champs
That was a good game and really competitive.
thorns 08 beat Eastside 07 state runners up 8-0 the previous weekend
It was not even that close

NWE 08s will eventually overtake them. Mark my words. 06 thorns get destroyed by Vancouver timbers Ga team. 04 Eastside team was better than Thorns 04 team NO QUESTION. Thorns 04 team was a JOKE and likely 6th or 7th best in the state of Oregon.
Love to see how nwe 08's look against 07 udpdx.
                          I give udpdx 6-0 advantage

What's your opinion of Rochelle Hearns? Her specifically and not Bridge City--I know there is a lot of people talking down the club. So yeah, just wondering about her coaching and ability to develop kids.

I have two daughters that played for Rochelle. She was always a person my girls looked up to and had fun with as a coach. I have seen her out coach teams with superior talent and she was very consistent with both my girls. My youngest switched from FCP to Thusc many years ago because she wanted to be coached by Rochelle. My kids are still big fans…

Why do the Thorns Academy need a nonprofit partner for field access? Doesnt Peregrine have the keys to Providence Park? Don't they have a longstanding deal for exclusive access to the training facility on King Street in Beaverton?

Oh, sorry; those are for the males. Thorns get to train at Power lines. No matter how woke they may sell themselves, the club is still owned by a trust fund fratboy.
