College commitment is an way-stop not a destination. I'd like for your kid to go and tell their college coach "well you know I don't play hard because we didn't win the conference or because it's senior year and I have finals or graduation to plan for". They will always be grinding. Life is about managing that grind not pausing it for a whole year because you are a senior. You fit it in and you keep playing and you keep grinding. That's what you college wants and demands and thus your club better be as well.
If you are not playing in college yet you are still on the team the expectations are exactly the same or you should have hung up the boots!Comment

If your goal is to play in college, then first you need to be seen - which there are multiple ways/leagues but ECNL currently has the best platform to be seen. Then you get recruited and committed. Then you work hard to improve and walk into your freshman college season as strongly as possible. Those that take their senior season off and figure their job is done now that they're recruited are the ones who wind up spending a lot of time riding pine in the first number of years of college/transferring/quitting. I do not disagree with you. But my point is that it is a very hard transition for teams from U17 group to U18/19 group. A large portion of those kids continue onto play at next level, but that leaves a portion of the group who hang it up before senior year; or simply are not as motivated.Originally posted by Guest View Post

Just found this forum.
My daughter is at NWEliteFC. Kevin Legg invited my her to come over to CrossFire from Untied PDX during her 8th grade year. People warned us not to go, it would be a horrible experience and a waste of money. I realized that everybody that told us that had kids that either didn't make the tryout at CrossFire, or their kids never got playing time and moved on. So I took their advice with a grain of salt.
I have read alot of VERY negative posts about ECNL here in Oregon.
Just wanted to share that we have had a fantastic experience and my daughter really grew as a player playing under Legg and Coach Rosie. She had quite a few schools interested and multiple offers.....She just committed to The University of San Francisco. We couldn't be more proud of her and happy with our ECNL experience so far. I don't think my daughter would have got the exposure she did had she not make the move up.
I know everybody's journey is different and wish all your kids good luck.

Great post and good for you!!! We had a similar experience with Legg/Rosie and CU. My kids moved onto College before the CU melt down, but myself and many others attribute Legg for growing our kids on the field and getting scholarship opps.Originally posted by Guest View Post

Actively listen to the people who had a bad experience at a very high caliber and results oriented club. Sift through the noise and remember that often not playing or getting cut usually equals a bad experience.Comment

Every players goal is to play and contribute. About 30% or more of the girls that are recruited, don’t end up getting minutes and many get cut, quit, or transfer after they are told they won’t play. The goal should be to pick the best overall school fit, where the player would still love to attend even without soccer. Because he got a raw deal in PDX. Parent ran administrative group who didn’t like the fact he couldn’t be swayed ran him. Players played and parent involvement didn’t. He was a really good coach and recruiter who ruffled lots of feathers. PLAYERS loved the guy and he was very successful.
